Default Manfacture year

I thought maybe someone here might have some information on a Smith & Wesson 3913 Lady Smith, SN BDH5731, and a Model 439, S/N TAZ5504, both in 9mm of course.

Ah, the dreaded triple-alpha s/n. Info from the SCSW

BDH s/n is PROBABLY 1989

TAZ s/n is 1986-87. But I seen to recall that the TAZ was a special run? Anyone?

Others might be able to narrow down further.

Thanks. Those are accurate enough for me, but of course any other information would be welcomed.

I just like to have an idea.

If you have the factory boxes, the “Spec Ord Code” on the label is a Julian style date code. The first character designates the year and the last three characters represent the sequential day of the year.

This 686-4 has a Spec Ord Code of 6121, which translates to the 121st day in 1996.

A letter from Roy will tell you what info you need on that pistol for sure.
