Default 39-2 grip numbers?

Picked up a nice nickel version today. The right grip has 6132 rubber stamped on it. That number doesn't relate to the gun's serial number. Were factory grips numbered to the gun or is there some other significance to this number?

Thanks.

Your post prompted me to check my 39-2. No numbers at all on the back of mine.

They used to sell them blister-packaged on a card as accessories. (Like the hammers, triggers, and stocks for revolvers)
I have seen them with the rubber stamping on several examples. Normally it was a replacement set.

I guess the height of laziness was asking the question without bothering to check the grips on my blued example. That one is numberless. Judging from the screws, those grips have been removed/swapped a bazillion times.

Do you remember, were they S&W branded?
