Default Bodygaurd 380

Just traded for a new Bodygaurd 380 for a pocket pistol. Are these any good? I've had several S&W 1911's in my day but these are a whole nuther smoke! I made a good deal that I could not pass up. Anything to look for with these?

I have a first generation one with laser. Had failure to slide lock after last round. Sent to SW and they sorted out. Was wife's EDC until she got a Ruger LCPII. Now it just sits in the safe.

When inserting a magazine, make sure to depress the mag release button or the button will fail over time due to the sharp edge of the mag against the plastic release tab. Some people jam it in repeatedly and it fails soon afterwards.

I have two laserless BGs.
Not a single problem with either.

From this thread it appears that the light strike issue with the BG has not gone away. Is that right? Current production has not resolved the problem? I have one that has never given me a problem but I have also read where the guns work fine and then suddenly develop the issue. is that right?

Does anyone know if replacing the hammer spring with an extra power spring solves the problem? I rarely carry the BG, but would like to take any appropriate preventative action.

Thanks

I have shot the body guard and did not like the very long trigger pull and the heavy trigger... over 10#. But that is a personal preference.

Based on my admittedly limited experience, the Bodyguard 380 is one of those beautiful little guns... that doesn’t work. (“Light strikes”, failure-to-fire.)

I just got mine and haven't tried it out yet. I've added the mag grip extension and can't wait to give it a try.

I have one without a laser that I have been shooting for the last couple of years. At this point, I have about 1000 rounds through it without any bobbles that were not shooter induced. I have used all types of bullets but it seems to like 100 grain FMJs best. It's true that the trigger is heavy and long but I don't find it any worse than my J frames and I kind of like it on a gun that spends a lot of time riding in a pocket. One observation that I have made is that it is very accurate. Much more accurate than I expected it to be. The fit and finish is just about where it should be for a gun in its price range. I'm not sure why it dosen't get any love but it is just as good as the other brands in its class.

I have seen a few Bodyguards in our county CCW classes, we don't let them use the laser (if they have one).

Each of them passed the course, firing a 50 round practice session and then at least one more 50 rounds for score, some of them did it three times, no issues except for a few blisters.

I bought the BG w/o the laser and really like it until light strike problems developed and I lost confidence in it.
