Default 4053 find.

Been looking around for a .40 3rd Gen to eventually convert to 10mm. Found this one last week in the local Scheels with $100 price drop. It's very clean and I'm happily surprised it didn't sell at even the previous price. It came with a spare mag, but no box. (total with gift card and taxes was $306). Anyways it's home, and oddly enough I'm now having 2nd thoughts on doing the 10mm conversion.

BTW, a LGS has a pair of mags, but they won't take less than $40 for each. Is that a fair price??

Nice gun I think that's a fairly rare variation. At least I've never seen one before. I'm not a 40 caliber guy however I think 40 for those magazines is not completely unreasonable. As I recall that fairly difficult to find these days.

Not sure how rare single stack 4053s are, but the double stack or TSW models sure seem to be more common.
Looks like I'll be paying the LGS another visit to get those mags.

Thanks!

Nice 4053! It looks like it wasn't used much. I enjoy my 4053s and find them to be great shooters. They also make good carry guns. I'd offer the LGS $75 for both of the other mags if they don't look well used. Enjoy your 4053.

Wow!!! That's what I call fabulous condition at an outstanding price! I paid $400+tax for mine. It's in really good condition, but yours looks even better! Wanna sell it?

BTW, I've always thought that if one is going to do a 10mm conversion... i.e., put the time and expense of a conversion into a gun... that you should start with the best condition gun you can find. Yours clearly qualifies! Congratulations!

At one time, those 4013/4053 8-round single stacks were fetching up to $100 or more on the large auction site. Supply has magically increased since then (high prices have a way of doing that sometimes) and $40 (+/-) seems to be the typical asking price these days. I've seen some as low as the high $20's, but not currently. I'm embarrassed to say what I paid for a few spares a while back, but I was hoping to find a Model 4013 sister gun at the time and I wasn't willing to invest in one without the assurance that I wouldn't be left hanging for lack of mags.

Thanks, TTSH. It had a few minor scuffs. They were easily wiped away with a maroon Scotchbrite pad.

I'm shocked at the 40XX single stack mags once selling for $100. That's in the 10XX mag price range.

Great minds think alike . I was wanting one , but my two 40's were TSWs , which Bill said couldn't be used . That was yesterday , went to the gun show and just before leaving , there it was , a CS40 . Man , I haven't been so excited in a while . Already emailed him asking where to send it to . Going to be a hell of a carry gun !

Man, why don't I ever find $100 markdown tags like that! My local dealers arm wrestle me for the last 25¢!

It was the end of the 1st Quarter of 2016 that 4013/4053 magazine prices peaked. I remember it well. I was so desperate that I was going to buy a ****** condition, agency-marked 4013 just because it came with 5 magazines. I was going to keep 3 magazines and resell it with 2. Those mags would have only cost me a net of about $50 each.

I decided against it but someone else had the same idea. The same gun disappeared and then showed up in another shop a month later... with just one magazine!!!

For 3rd Gens, which is mostly what I buy, I figure the magazines into the equation. If a gun comes with more than 2 magazines and I already have one that uses those same magazine, I plan to sell the excess magazines to defray the cost.

That especially applies to 457 and 7 round 3013 magazines as those are fairly rare. Last year I bought a 1006 magazine in package even though I don't have a 10mm gun. I flipped that on Ebay because I know that they are rare and go for good money.

Magazines are the weak spot in 3rd Gens because other than the 59xx Mec Gars they aren't made anymore. At least not ones I'd use!

The early 40 S&W single stack magazines seem pretty rare, so if I could find some at a good price, I'd likely try to flip them.

My problem is that I'm nowhere near the number of magazines some members say we need for our beloved 3rd Gens. So while it's nice to score a 3rd Gen with a couple extra OEM mags, I keep them! But more than 1 or 2 magazines is a rarity in my experience... and that 6946 I recently acquired came with NONE! I had to go out and source a couple 6906/6946 OEM 10-round magazines on my own. Big bucks!!!

The odd thing, in my case, is that I never did find that pristine perfect Model 4013 that I was seeking. I suppose that means that I've got a few more mags than I need for my 4053, but if I sold them today, I'd be selling them at a loss.

Buy high, sell low. It's the (financial) story of my life.

when I sold a 1006 a couple of years ago the buyer didn't want any spare mags, so I was stuck with 7 of them. I've since sold off 3. Too bad the ones that I still have won't work with the 4053.
I will hit that LGS tomorrow and buy those 4053 mags
