Default 5904 rear sight change?

Got a 5904 new when they first came out.

Early model with the square trigger guard and fixed blade rear sight.

I want the rear sight gone and replaced with the later models lo-mount Novak style.

Seems to be a well guarded ancient Chinese secret of what the cut is.

Any Novak lo-mount carry or Novak style sight match up to the dovetail?

I can mill the slide top behind the sight if the dove tail cut is the correct angle and proper depth if need be.

TIA
Pic of same sight I have on a 5906.

The pre-Novak and Novak cut is the same but you are correct that the rear of the slide will need to be machined. You may find that you need to change the front sight also as the current sight will probably be too short for the Novak rear sight.

The Novak rear sight part number is 107920000.
The set screw part number is 108010000.
The front sight part number is 109090000.

Thank you.

Ordered both sights and the set screw.

Milled the slide .067 down.

Sanded base of rear sight and used my home made sight pusher to install.

Good call on the front sight as the original is to low.

Nicely done flashbang!!

I've contemplated doing this on a few 915 slides with some hand files, but in the end I decided I don't mind the old-style sights. Especially since I can usually find cheap Trijicon night sights for them.

Excellent work!

Us schlubs with no tools (okay, I'll admit, no skill either) usually just source a later slide with the sights we'd rather have. Your solution is MUCH more cool! You make many of us jealous!

Thank for the comments.

It really wasn't hard to do.

After the math the cut is easy and could be done with patience, steady hand and a file.

What was hard is the slide.

My poor carbide cutter was working only at .012 a pass.

I do note however the factory part midway sent is not marked at all.

I have seen on the internets the rear sight marked Novak, this one does not.

I wonder if this factory part can be crossed to a Novak part number that has the sight marked.

Maybe early ones weren't marked.

Screen grab from the YouTube shows same sight as built from the factory and is marked.
