Default 3906

I just saw this morning after church a 3906 on a local site. It's got the winged adjustable sight, squared trigger guard, and ambidextrous safeties. From the two pictures posted, it looks very clean. Apparently it comes with only one mag. The seller's asking $600. This seems a steep price, although the model's not as common as many others. I like single stacks, not the big sights. He's had it listed almost three weeks for the 600 berries? Opinions?

I paid 650 for mine several years ago only because there were only roughly 2k made. I seen a few on that other auction place sell from 500-575.

That price is probably not too far off these days but I would not give that much for an adjustable sight version for aesthetic reasons only (but that's coming from someone who already has a 3906).

Agree, not a steal of a price and definitely not out of line.

Just for potential future shopping (based on a few comments you made) I will say that they only ever came with the early long hooked trigger guard and also all of them had the ambi decock levers.

As for the sight options... get interesting here. You'd think the only choice was fixed Novak or winged adjustable sights but I have two 3906's with NEITHER of those options! I've got one that has the Novak Night Sights and I also have a fixed sight 3906 that has the 2nd Gen simple dovetailed rear sight.

While the Night Sight gun has the typical Novak rear cut (and so it may not have been factory original...?), my fixed sight gun is the interesting one because the lettering on the slide looks more like the letter font and style used on earlier 2nd Gens. It is definitely not a 2nd Gen slide simply place on there because it has a 3rd Gen style dovetail front sight and it has the 3rd Gen upgraded pressed-in (fixed) barrel bushing and a typical 3rd Gen pistol.

The 3906 is a great and also scarce pistol. Extra magazines are very easy to find, no worries there.

The 3906 came with 3 types of sights - the adjustable 'winged' sights, the pre-Novak fixed sights, and some of the later ones did have the Novak-style fixed sights (which seem to be the most desirable). $600 seems a bit high for the adjustable sighted version, that's more in line with the Novak sighted variants I've seen for sale. I'd feel comfortable paying $400-$500 for an adjustable sighted 3906.

May be worth also mentioning that the 3906 and 5906 use exactly the same slide... not to mention a nearly endless laundry list of other 3rd Gen 9mm models. If you were to buy an adjustable sight 3906 for a good price, you could source a Novak equipped 5906 slide or even simply swap slides from a 5906 you may already own.

This is true, and I'm currently finishing the process of modifying a 3906 with a Novak sighted 5906 slide for carry, among other changes to the gun. I will say that procuring a 5906 slide is likely going to be an expensive process, as they are highly sought after. A cheaper option would be to get a 915 blued slide, if you don't mind the two-tone.

I gave a little less, $525 , for one a few months back. Nothing special, nice condition, adjustable sights with two mags and no box.
I really like these single stacks. Even though I have fairly large hands, they just feel right to me. My 5906 just feels fat. And it’s a great shooter.
If it’s something you really want, offer him a little less, worst he can say is no. On a 3906 around here in nice shape, I wouldn’t hesitate going at least $550.

I have looked all around and only seen a handful of 3906/3904 pistols for sale in good enough shape to interest me. Frankly, my love of the 4566 is what bas driven me to seem a 3906.
$600 would be fine by me if it was in good shape. As for sights and trigger guards, nothing that can't be changed.

Interesting thread!
My 3906 was picked up at a local LGS for $300 about 3 years ago. Described as a police turn-in and in fact it has some markings on it that seems to show it came out of a department in Kentucky (KY prefix).
Just because threads are more interesting with pictures, here is an image of the rear sight on my pistol.
