Default 3rd Gen Prices

Trying to build up my 3rd gen collection, but have been out the loop for awhile. Do the 3913’s bring in more of a premium? I really want one and found one locally for $450 OTD which includes factory cardboard box, 3 factory mags, and the smith action enhancement package. Pistol is in pretty good shape. Minor wear and a ding or two. Owner estimates 500 rounds total. Fair ? I’m on the fence .

If the dings weren't too bad, I'd probably pay that.

Some justification...

if you found one on the big auction sight at $400, you'd likely have at least $450 in it OTD, without being able to inspect it first.

Seems out my way Third Gens are scarcer than hens teeth. Wait for TTSH or Gary to chime in on the going price.

That's a pretty reasonable price, at least in the Northeast. I don't know if the action enhancement package adds any real value, but it certainly doesn't hurt it.

Yeah, I'd say $450 OTD sounds fair. Most of mine were $400 (+/-) plus tax... essentially $425ish OTD. I don't know anything about that action enhancement package, but if we are talking tuning performed by the mothership, it should be a nice plus.

$450 OTD is a good price for a 3913 all things considered. The mothership Action Enhancement Package is $160 so that sweetens the deal.

Default Here in Virginia the nine mils and the forties are still a pretty good buy.

When you find them. And this is less and less with each passing day. However the .45 acp guns and the ten mil guns are steadily going up

Out of the last probably 7 4506's on that site went for above 600. With inflation the 4506-1 I bought in 2012 would net me a 50 dollar profit.

Careful now, those upside down 3913's are very difficult to accurately fire...

Still better than a sideways Glock. Or an upright Glock, for that matter!

Most of the 3rd gens can be purchased at fair to bargain prices recently.

To me, the 3913 is just about the perfect 3rd Gen, with the 6906 pulling a close 2nd. Mine I have had since new in 1993 along side a 5906.

Of all, the PC5906 (which is really a Performance Center 6906, don't ask me why it is model number as a PC5906) is about as sweet as it gets.

The 3913 has some weight but not as heavy as the 5906 but if I ever had to be in a firefight, it would be a toss up between which one I prefer, if I couldn't get my hands on a Sig P229 in .357 Sig fast enough.

Cannot knock a Sig against a 3rd Gen S&W nor vice-versa.

I paid what I considered to be an outrageous price for my 1066, but then again it’s the only one I had ever seen, and they are rare. Aside from the 10’s I wouldn’t pay over $400 for any third gen. I have as follows

1066-$1000
3913-$300
5943-$265
908-$250

Had a 4006 that I got for $375 and a 909 for $300. Have since sold both. I missed out on a like new 6946 for $200 on Armslist about a month ago. In PA third gens can be found cheap.

3rd Gens are getting harder to come by, especially ANIB or pristine w/o box. The 3913 has what might be called a cult following. A really nice one is not going to be cheap! And, keep in mind that pristine 3rd Gens are going to cost a lot more here in Southern California . . . if you can even find them.

So, good luck.

Prices are regional and even model specific. The 10xx guns seem to be at the top of the price list everywhere. 39xx guns seem to command good prices, although like CA, finding them in MA is not that easy.

Even Value Line guns can be expensive. I grabbed a 457 for $349.00 + tax right after the first of the year. Gun, box, two magazines. Looks like it was rarely fired. OTOH, 908 seem to go for more.

CS guns are rare and pricey if you can find one.

Non collector guns are more easily found, but even at that they don't show up too frequently.

One of the things about the 3rd Gen guns is that they are both collectible if in very good condition and useable as carry/PD guns. Even though they are out of production, they are so reliable that I have no qualms about carrying one on a regular basis.

I think that's a very good price. The mags alone are worth $100. I saw a 3913 Lady Smith at the last gun show I visited in Tyler, and the price was $550 on a table (always inflated). It wasn't nearly as nice as the one in this thread.
