Default Finally scored a 5904

Been looking for years, could never find just the right one. Got this on auction. Looks LNIB, with box, paperwork, but no mags. Probably had high caps. Even had the little round sticker. For me it was a steal at $366. Just dumb luck I guess.

Great deal.

I carried one on duty for a few years before I went back to a Glock. Never had an issue with it.

The 5904 was the 3rd gen I wanted bad since 1992 when I saw one for the first time. Absolutely lusted after on. Hooked guard and the smaller fixed sights. Every time I had the money I could not find one, and when I was broke, they seem to be abound....

Just recently snagged one not far off of your price that had the round trigger, Novak sights, and a MIM hammer. Shoots spooky accurate with the 9bp, XM9001, and 9BPLE Federal 115 grain loads.

An evil black version of a 5906 I presume and $366.00 would be considered a steal for anyone who was not related to the seller! That is seriously one badass pistol and I hope that you will shoot it as often as possible and let everyone else look on in envy.

Have fun with it. I carried one on duty from 1990-93. I tried to find a "civilian" one & couldn't, so I settled for a 5906.

Thanks for the great posts guys. JB. Fortunately I have a few 59 series guns so I have bunch of mags. Medic, you are right on with the Federal 9BP. I am a fanatic about accuracy testing when I get a new (or used) piece, and I also include the 9BP as one of the test rounds. It is a great standard to compare to.

Actually it's an evil black version of a 5903, but still a beautiful gun nonetheless!

Default Good buy on that one...

I collect 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen S&W autos but that is one I don't have. I envy you for finding such a nice example and a great price. I do a lot of gun shows with my holsters and always walk the show looking for these type of firearms and that is a reasonable to fairly good price. I see a lot of examples in the $425 to $450 range that aren't even close to what you have there. Thanks for sharing.

Refresh my memory. I have a 5906 stainless steel frame and quite heavy. The 5904 is steel or alloy frame ? Which model numbers are alloy frames ?

I know the 915 (even though seems like a 2nd gen is a 3rd gen) was alloy frame, which 59xx were alloy frame ?

Do the alloy frames shoot as nice a the heavier 5906 ?

The 5903, 5904 are the 9mm full sized aluminum frame DA/SA models

Just as accurate with less weight on the belt. The 5905 and 5906 are the carbon steel and stainless steel frames respectively.

Model 3,
I think the alloy guns shoot very much like the steel guns. The 9mm round is soft enough where the weight of the gun does not make much of a difference. Of course .40s and .45s a bit more noticeable. To be fair though, I like all of them.
Jason, I am sure I have rifled through your boxes, because I am even more of a holster nut than a gun nut. I am sure it has something to do with the lead based paint I ate as a youngster, but that is a story for another time.

Back in 1992 I was renting office space to an accountant. One month he was a little short on cash so he gave me a 5904 in lieu of the $200 rent. It is one of my favorite carry guns, next to my 3913.

He never came crawling back, begging you to sell it back for at least 6 months pre-paid rent?!?!?
