I picked up a 3914 recently (tough to find in Ca.). I really like the pistol. In an effort to make it my own, I purchased a hammer from an auction site for a 5906.I believe it is an mim hammer. I had a friend install it for me, along with a set of checkered Houge grips. In the process, the side plate broke. he put everything back together.
The issue is that while the pistol works fine single action and decocts just fine, the douple action pull results in a late hammer fall. Sometimes it works as it should, other times the hammer falls late after the trigger is held back (Sometimes for a matter of seconds), and sometimes it seems to fall after pressure is released from the trigger.
I have a new side plate, and a new sear is on the way. The replacement hammer showed no indication of having ben worked on, I have no idea about the sear as it was a used pistol.
What should I have a gunsmith check for when I bring it to him with the new parts? (I am also having him install tritium night sights, not the Novak type)
Thank you,
