Default Thinking about trading my 3913NL - nuts?

I'm thinking about trading my 3913NL for something smaller and lighter. Crazy idea?
I'm not a "collector" of guns - I'm a user - if they don't get used, they go bye-bye. Although I like my 3913NL I usually grab either a lighter more compact gun (such as my Sig P232) or a higher capacity bigger gun like the Beretta 92FS or CZ75.

I'm thinking of trading it for maybe a CS9....or selling it and purchasing a CS9. Nuts or not?
Please talk me out of it....or into it.

If it ain't working for you, trade it for something that does. But many people here consider the 3913 about the perfect size and weight for concealed carry while still have good shooting characteristics.

Nuts...........................

I've had a 3913NL as my primary concealed carry gun since the early 1990s.

How much will you be saving in weight? I looked at the CS9 when they first came out..... I carry IWB in a Milt Sparks Summer Special w/ a flush fit 7rd magazine and a 8 round back up..... IMO the CS9 did not provide enough difference in size or weight to make a meaningful difference.

I don't have a Sig 232 but do have a Walther PPK as well as a CZ75B and several Beretta 92s including compact and single stack 92 type Ms.

When I want higher capacity I go with a 6906; basicly the same gun as my 3913 but 12+1; I carry a 15 rd spare magazine w/ the +2 adapter..... for a total of 28 rounds vs my normal 3913 load of 16.

Finally finding a CS9 won't be easy.... nor will replacing your NL when you come to regret selling/trading it!!!!!!!!!!

Your not nuts.
Sell it.
I have a 3913 LS and if I get a decent offer it's gone.

Normally I'd vote for "you're nuts" to sell/trade your 3913NL, but if your thinking about doing it for a CS9, this happens to be a good time to do that. Currently, there have been a number of LEO trade-in CS9's selling on gunbroker for very good prices, less than you could get for a 3913NL.

A good option would be to pick up one of these CS9's, see if you like it side-by-side with your 3913NL, then decide if you want to sell either one of them. Or keep them both, which would be my suggestion.

I might be a candidate for an NL if one of you folks decide to sell one in good condition.

Before you commit yourself to a CS9, seriously consider the all stainless steel Kahr K9.

Thanks for the suggestion but, NOPE - it's striker-fired and I only do DA/SA hammer-fired pistolas (or revolvers) for carry....thus, my Sig P232, CZ75, and 3913.

Seem like a good trade to me. I have a 3913LS which is the same gun as your 3913NL. But have never tried a CS9. I like the LS, but would consider trading it if I had a chance to try a CS9 and liked it.

Having owned both a cs9 and 3913, I would encourage you to keep you 3913.....then again I am very biased in my thinking that my 3913 is still the King of Concealed Carry!!
The only time it will be sold is at my estate sale........

I would advise you to keep the 3913NL and buy one of the LE trade in CS9s.

I have a 3914NL. Great pistol. But it sits in the safe since I got a CS9. I would not part with it though.

And of course IF I decided to sell the 3914NL, I would sell it to Jeppo. So I could have visitation. Regards 18DAI

My wife was away for many weeks and I had nobody to play with. So, I made a few gun-seeking field trips. That particular one turned out great. The gun was everything I hoped for. Soon after leaving the meet, the seller called me and asked whether I wanted to shoot a couple interesting firearms. I turned around, met him and followed him to his place. Maybe he felt sorry for the length of my roundtrip.

While he went to retrieve the guns, I found a couple paper napkins in my car. As I tore them up and stuffed them in my ears, he gave me a strange look. I explained that I hadn't come prepared to shoot. He says, "You're not gonna need that".

Out came a couple full autos (9 and .22) with an interchangeable can. That was a very good day!

Since I acquired a 3913NL and 3953 about a half year ago,my CS9 has been 'put on the block'. The 'swell' of the CS9's factory grip causes me to prefer the feel of the 3913/3953 grips.

Funny how that works, as I like the grip on my 3913 the least of all my pistols.

To the subject, there is no way you are crazy.

There are absolutely reasons why some particular handguns get VERY popular, some are very easy for a wide range of people to love.

Me, I am a -huge- fan of the 1-2-3rd Gens and make no mistake, the 3913NL is one of the most popular 3rd Gens they offered. Folks love them for a reason but I myself don't own one. I currently own eight 3rd Gen production guns but a 3913 isn't one of them. A CS-9 used to be but I sold that homely fireplug.

They are still great and still popular, but neither is for me. And you aren't crazy if a particular one isn't for you.

U less it is a 3906. If a 3906 isn't for you, you are out of your gourd! Just kidding, kind of.

Sorry - you're nuts! There will never be any more 3913's, 3914's, 6906's or SIG P230/232's or quality metal Walthers as far as that goes. I would prolly save my Starbucks money for a while and get a Kahr - especially a steel Kahr if you can handle the weight.

Attaboy!

I love kahr's
I've carried a K9 with night sights for several years. They are of exceptional quality and fine shooters. The trigger is a true double action with a double cam that IMHO, feels like a well tuned revolver.

I've owned a few all-metal Kahrs and they are generally fine pistols with nice, smooth triggers. A K9 will be the same size as a CS9 with 1/2" more barrel, but I found them to be a little blockier in profile for CC. My Kahr 9mm magazines also have a habit of spitting out the top round or two in a magazine carrier, making my 8-round reloads into 6 or 7 rounds if needed. Mainly why I've sold my Kahrs off, and the few I have left sit in the safe gathering dust while I carry my S&W 3rd Gens.

The CS9 (and CS45) is a great, quality pistol that performs out of proportion to its side and was vastly under rated when it was in production, perhaps coming out early for the small concealed gun boom. Some will argue that they are quality compromises. If they were back in the day, they are built solid and better quality than anything made now. They are my semi-auto carry guns, and have performed flawlessly at the range for 15 years. I was referred to them by an LEO forum member who carried the CS9 as BUG in an ankle holster.

A CS9 is perhaps the only pistol that I would trade a 3913 for, especially if I could find a CS9S stainless. The only downside for me would be the larger factory Hogue grips. I really don't like them. The blued CS9 that I once owned had cut down 3rd gen grips of unknown manufacture; I bought the gun used and those are the grips the pistol came with.
The only reason I'm not wearing that CS9 right now is I sold it to a friend and kept a 908S. For those out there who may not know, the 908S/908 was the value line version of the 3913/3914. Until/if I find a 3913/14, I'm happy and extremely well armed with the 908S.

Referring back to my post #20,pic enclosed.
The 'swell' of the CS9 grip is the aspect that I don't like. My palms are flat and that 'swell' feels like an 'intrusion' into my palm. I love the rubber grip of the CS9 compared to the plastic grips but the CS9 just feels awkward.

You just take that 3913 grip and a you fit it on the CS9, and whatya got? A sweet little 9mm carry piece. Here’s mine with a 3913 TSW magazine.

I had bought a 3913 TSW grip for $13 on Numrich and chopped the bottom then rounded it off. The rounded bottom of this grip fits naturally right inside my palm, and it doesn’t budge at all. If you have larger hands then maybe use the 3913 TSW grip and leave the part that sticks out the bottom on. Then your mags will also be flush with the bottom of the grip.

FWIW the CS9 is a close range defensive gun, and not one I personally can be very accurate at distance with. But I will say that it’s a VERY sweet shooter for its size, and I prefer it to the 3913 for carry. Right now is the time to pick up a used CS9, as Tercgen has mentioned. After this round of police trade ins dries up, there may not be this many available ever again.

I was about to post you were nuts until I read the post. With that particular gun in mind I'd say personal preference. Proceed if you wish!!

I love the grip mod you did on your CS9!
I want to do the same with my Blue and SS CS9's.

IMHO a set of checkered Hogue wood grips on a 3913NL gives me the perfect grip....... slightly rounded vs. flat and a bit of a arch in the backstrap make a world of difference without effecting concealed carry.

I don't think you are Nuts at all as if the gun does not feel good in your hand then its not a useful tool for you. My rule is for me to really like the look of the gun I am holding, it has to fit my hands correctly as well. I am not here to beat myself up using it as well. I really have to like what I am looking at. Your mention of a Beretta92FS is a excellent choice as I have owned one in the past. Sorry I ever sold it but the new owner paid dearly for it. I will find another one in the next year or two that will be equipped the same. Trick trigger, rod and sprng. Wood grips. Deadly accurate.

Well, I've decided that it's going to be up for sale soon. I have sent info. to Jeppo, as requested, and if he's not interested in it I will list it in the classifieds here within the next few days.
I hope I don't regret selling it, but I'm just not using it and may try something else in 9mm.
