Default Mag find at the Pawn shop today!!!

Once and a while you find a great deal if you look around!! I went to the Pawn shop looking for ammo cans. No ammo cans so I took a walk around the shop. Sitting on a counter was a S&W mag marked ??. One look and I knew that it was for a model 52. It was marked $25. I think that I hurt my elbow reaching for my wallet!!!

Nice ! I did the same with a mag for my 39 one day. Happened to stop in to a local place, asked if they had any mags for s&w...he handed me a box that had a few mags in it, one of which was an original 39 mag, had a $20 sticker on it.

I bought a 10mm series mag at the last Memphis RK Gun Show from an individual that was walking the aisles. The non-negotiated price was $5.00. All the seller knew was that 9mm was loose. 40 S&W fit in the mag but the mag wouldn't fit in his 4043 DOUBLE STACK. 357 Sig had the same problem as trying to load in the 4043 and 45ACP wouldn't fit in the mag.

I mean COME ON. The darn thing is even stamped on the obverse 10 MM S&W / AccuGuide 10 MM and on the reverse 10 MM S&W.

After seeing the seller on another aisle he finally admitted that he had NO IDEA what a 10MM is and what the mags were selling for.

Nice!
Similarly, I found a 1006 mag at local show for $25. Flipped it for $80 within 10 minutes.

At a Cabela's sales event they had tables set out covered with odd ball used stuff that I presume they bought along with used guns. I found a Walter branded P-38/P-1 magazine for $4. I figured I'd give it to an old friend who bought a P-1 about 1986 when they were first imported in quantity. The years rolled by without running across him so I still had it when a pawn/gun shop put out an excellent condition P-1 with no magazine for $300. I had no choice. That's the hazard of buying a magazine that is missing its pistol.

My question for Smith625 is will this be an extra for your Model 52 or is it going to cost you a grand?

I was just looking at a 52-1 without the barrel wrench, box or extra mag. I then started wondering what it would cost to acquire a wrench and spare mag, or if they were even available. I'm guessing 25.00 was a really, really good deal.

Jealous, I am still looking for a good pawnshop find. I did find a rusty Model 1917 once.

The Model 52 wrench is a trash can item. It's stunning, for a pistol built to such elite standards... that they would include the world's cheapest stamped metal throwaway junk wrench.

Using that wrench to tighten a bushing can damage the bushing/pistol. It can be slightly useful when taking apart a 52 that some previous fool has tightened the bushing too much on -- but that cheap junk wrench is not as good as using a 12-point socket of the correct size. (forgive me as I don't recall which size... but it is common... if you own a full set of sockets, you have a tool far better than the original S&W part)

If you still must own one... they are in huge supply and typically sell for $8 to $12. I loathe this wrench and it simply doesn't fit in with the Model 52.

Spare magazine...? Can be found as cheap at $65 or $70 at a show if the seller isn't internet savvy, because online... folks typically get $100-$125 for them. 52 magazines, regardless of silly rumor, conjecture and hype... are also not in short supply. The price is pure panic and emotion. Ebay and Gunbroker are the two finest places to pay too much for a 52 magazine.

Thanks for the insight on the value and usefulness of the wrench, and the need to just be a little savvy if I ever need to buy a magazine. If I ever do get a 52 it will be to shoot, nothing in my safe collects dust.

LGS bargain bin, 52 mag without price tag.
I asked the manager about a price, his response was do you know what this is? When I said yes, he asked if I had used for it. When I said yes again, his response was how does five bucks sound?
Over the years, same thing has happened with high standard mags and some other desirable accessories.
As a rule, items in the bargain bin generally accompany a firearm that’s been traded in or bought and don’t represent too much of an investment on the stores part.

Nearly 65 years ago I found a German WII rifle in a pawn shop listed as, "Nazi Bolt Action Semi-Auto" for $100. I bought it immediately as it was a G41(M) rifle!

$25 for a 52 magazine is about what they SHOULD cost, but...

I’d buy two or three at that price. Congrats on your find.

Local gun show had an ex S&W rep selling new 10mm mags for $25 each. I just missed them when I got to the table. Shame that the seller was still into collecting but clueless on the market.

I'm hoping to find some pre ban 669 mags. Online prices are crazy and 10 round are the most I see.

It won't exactly match but years ago I found an orphan extended 20 round hipower mag. It fit the 69 just fine. I had to cut a new hole in it for the mag catch. but it slid right past the original hipower hole as it was offset a bit from the smith hole. It worked perfectly for years except it was blued until I carried it with my 669 while on the Marine Unit. It was a pawm shop junk box find too. I think he gave it to me but that was at least 25 years ago and I used to load ammo for his Marlin 256 Win Mag. So if you just need a mag and see a hipower mag cheap you might want to grab it.

I just went to look for it and I can't find it without causing an avalanche but I did notice that my Nazi stamped hipower needed a little TLC. I hadn't inherited my FIL's war trophy when I altered what is probably a collectible magazine but oh well.

I see I only have 4 other mags for my 669 two of which are blued or sorta blued now and two stainless, one of which is a Ramline mag which has always worked flawlessly and holds a couple extra. Odd setup with that one as it has a flat spring riveted near the top of the mag that uncoils as you load the mag so when loaded takes up less room allowing for the extra rounds. Wish I'd bought two of those. Unfortunately my 669, an early one, has no collectors value as it's been a working gun since new.

Sorry for going off topic.
