Smile 3913LS and 3913NL Prices

If you had a friend coming over to your house this weekend to check out your 3913's, assuming you were willing to sell one, what price would you give him on an LS vs NL. Consider all in "nice" condition (not police trades) with 2 mags but no boxes. I see wide price ranges but would want to give him some "reasonable" price so we could remain friends. Don't want to knock his socks off but don't want to leave a lot on the table either.

How good of a friend?

Just spitballing, given that condition, my "friend price" for a 3913LS would be $400 and for a 3913NL probably $500. That's certainly leaving some on the table.

I'd agree with Erich on "friends and family" pricing......... with the stipulation the 'friend" could only sell it back to you! At the same sale price. Don't want to lose a hard to replace gun and a friend if he would flip it!

$400 sounds good. Sell the NL. I never liked the sloped lower on them. I never looked twice at the 3913's because of that, or the Lady Smith engraving, until a few years ago when my LGS got a normal looking 3913 w/o the Lady Smith markings. I got that for $379. I felt that was a little high, but because I had never seen that variant before, I bought it. GARY

I'm confused!!!!!!! Did you buy a regular 3913??? The NL (Non-LadySmith) was a variation of the original 3913 which had the straight dust cover. The NL was only made for three years 1991 to 1994 while the "Regular 3913" was made from 1989 to 1999

considering that the small 3.5 inch single stacks variants have become 'desireable', I agree with BAM-BAM in post #3.
Sell one to a friend, friend flips it = lost a gun you liked and lost a friend you thought you liked.

Mine is not for sale to anyone. I consider the 3913NL the best discreet carry 9mm ever made. Flat, compact, accurate and boringly reliable with any load out there. Sell it? Uh-uh. No way.

This is what I purchased. No sloped lower. No Lady Smith markings. Between the LS marked guns, the sloped lower guns, & the grey guns, when I saw mine, I grabbed it, even though I paid more than I wanted to. I have tried posting links from 3 different sites showing my gun, but can not. It's stainless, non sloped lower, non LS marked, ambi safety, & the hammer from a 5906, so I can cock it on the first round. GARY

That's ironic, because the "regular" non sloped, ambi safety/decocker version is by far the most common. That's the variation of which the most were produced. The LS is a fairly low volume item and the NL even more so. The NL was made for those who wanted the slightly more compact version of the 3913, but didn't want the flowery scripted "Lady Smith" on the slide.

Even more rare are the 3914LS and 3914NL.

It is. I would probably put the 3913LS at more like $450 (given that a decent non-abused standard 3913 w/o box goes for about $400 average around here). The 3913NL at $500 w/o box would be right in line with "friendly" deals that I'm aware of.

I can respect that. I was never all that thrilled with the sloped frame or the light colored grips. I can see where it makes stylish sense for a lady, but it never really struck me as the perfect look in a manly man's gun.

That said, I do own an NL (w/black grips) and it works perfectly... but really no better any of my standard 3913 pistols or my 908S pistols. No regrets at all about buying one... and paying substantially extra for it... but it's more about rarity and collector value than necessity.

The NL reminds me of the Mauser .380 auto I've always liked "the looks" of.

The 3913/14 grips were the weakest feature of the 39xx guns for me..... too thin/flat for me...... all mine wear Hogue checkered wood grips.... gives a bit of a palm swell without effecting concealed carry.

I've currently got a 3913NL for sale elsewhere (haven't had time to list it here yet) for $625, but it includes two custom made leather holsters worth $75 each.

I don't do "best friend and family pricing" on anything. If I think enough of a family member to pass on a gun, I'll just give it to them or trade them for something they have that I want, even if the values aren't equivalent.

Some sellers are of the opinion that a friend who buys from them will happily pay more, since they are a friend. I have actually run across this on several forums. They must be eating expired meds. GARY

I've never thought of myself as particularly lucky in finding guns, but I bought an as-new 3913 NL a month ago in a nearby pawnshop for $375. So I guess sometimes I am lucky...

From TTSH:
"I was never all that thrilled with the sloped frame or the light colored grips. I can see where it makes stylish sense for a lady, but it never really struck me as the perfect look in a manly man's gun."
I think those two aspects make 'em purty.
From BAM_BAM:
"The NL reminds me of the Mauser .380 auto I've always liked "the looks" of."
I agree on that, along with the old Beretta 70 series. I like them, for small-calibre guns and in the past carried an HSc in .380 and even a 70 in .32.

I'd say those guns highly influenced the design of the Sig P230/232.

Well, the HK4 was a modernized Mauser HSc . . . anyhow, sorry for the thread drift.

Fellows, thanks for the good info and comments, it's been fun to read your responses about friends. I was thinking I might rate my friends 1 to 10 and have a sliding scale for discounts for any personal guns sells. Think I'll price LSs, NLs and regular 3913s around $500. The guy is more a friend of a friend and I'll don't really care if one sells.

Not to further hijack the thread, but I like the wood grips on the Mauser and the fact that there's no slide release. Push a mag in a locked back HSc, either loaded or unloaded, and the slide slams shut. No fumbling with a lever or slingshotting the slide.

The "insert a mag" slide release was also (earlier) used on Mauser single action semiautos such as this Model 1910/14 .25 semiauto. New users of either these or the HSc are often confused on how to release the slide on one where the magazine has been removed.

I think of mine as a "380 Magnum". I recall the comments I got from some friends that happened to be in the store when I bought it around '04. I have a hard time thinking of something to disagree with what you wrote.
