NO, the 4013 is a single stack pistol

However, and here is where the confusion develops, the 4013TSW is a double stack pistol and will accept 4006 magazies

It certainly confuses me. A local guy has both a 4013 and even more rare 4014 for sale. Besides not being a .40 fan, the thought of trying to locate magazines for those makes me dizzy.

Gary,
I also am not a fan of the 40 S&W.

The great thing is that the single stacks are easily convertible to 10MM Auto.

Here is my 1014

If you look at the magazines you will see that they are 10MM Auto magazines that have a spacer inside to shorten them to 40 S&W length.

Unfortunatly Smith and Wesson got out of the 10MM Auto market before they brought the 1013/1014 firearms to market

I remember a thread about the magazines and removing the spacer to convert them to 10mm.

IIRC, the early single stacks were built on a .45 frame and the 4013TSW was built on a 6906 frame.

If the early 4013 could be converted to .45ACP, that would be nice, but I suspect that wouldn't work. As I recall, the 10mm conversion entails reaming out the chamber and a change of recoil springs. Or does it require a new barrel?

I'd guess that a .45 conversion would require a new barrel, new magazines, new recoil spring, and probably a bushing change. Cheaper just to buy a 457.

I'd help you out GaryS. Anything to get you into .40's! I bought some extra 4013/4014/4053/4054 magazines when I was starting my search for a 4013 (after I had bought my 4053). That pristine perfect Model 4013 never happened and I don't think it's going to happen now with my brand spanking new right shoulder problem... so those mags are now spares.

Thanks, but I'd have to buy yet another ammo cabinet if added .40 to the list. I got rid of 7.62x39 a couple of years ago, but added 20 gauge and 22WMR. Fortunately, it's only a small amount of 20 gauge and 22WMR is the same size as .22LR.

Those magazines are likely marketable because, as with most other 3rd Gen magazines, people like you, oldman10mm, and me Hoover them up and hoard them.

I haven't given up! Sometime before I die, I want to see you sporting a .40 on your hip!

We do. At least within the limits of a poor old retired man's budget and the ability to find shops that aren't hoarding the damn "obsolete" S&W magazines for themselves... the latter being a growing problem here in Southern New England.

I beg to differ as I have personally seen and handled 2 different double stack 4013's that were NOT TSW's! I don't know how many they made but there are a few out there. I work in a pawn shop had one in the shop and another at a local gun shop. I own both a Shorty .40 and a TSW 4013 and can assure these were both double stack alloy frame 4013's!
