Default Extractor Spring Problem SW 39-2

Went to range to test a series of loads for my SW 39-2 and had some good results.

Loaded up some rounds and back to range were had trouble with round going into battery. Looked at slide and the extractor seems to be lower than it should be. See Fig 1.

If I move he extractor by hand the round goes into battery.

Does this look like an extractor spring problem?

To replace it, it appears the pin near the extractor has to be removed. I assume from the top of the slide downward. And I would assume to resemble the pin should be inserted from the bottom up? Also is the pin tapered?

Thanks

Robert

The pin is not tapered, the design is such that the visible access hole on the top of the slide allows for a smaller diameter punch to drive the pin downward and out. The actual extractor pin is of a larger diameter than the access hole.

This way, the pin cannot walk upward and out on it's own (hole too small!) and it cannot walk downward and out on it's own (frame blocks the hole on the underside of slide)

Whatever happens, NEVER hog out the top access hole like the previous idiot owner of my first 745!

Default Thanks for the reply

Thanks to all that replied. Sevens, good point about the pin hole being small enough were the pin can not work its way out. I wanted to make sure the direction of removal and replacement before attempting to replace the spring.

Thanks

Robert

More likely the recoil spring, rather than the extractor spring.
