Well just hang onto your Third Gen "good stuff" Who knows might keep increasing in value.

While i love my Smith and Wessons it seems Ruger is the only one out there building what the customer wants. A couple of years ago I bought several Ruger firearms and they sent me questionnair. They asked what I wanted and I said a 3" GP100 in 10mm. A little over a year later they start making them.

A single polymer framed gun, Grip zone or not, does not represent a trend. This purchase was for a specific purpose and done at a price where I can probably recoup my purchase price if I decide I don't like it.

I'll still carry a 3rd Gen most of the time.

The 3914 found a good home, so I didn't have to rescue it.

I'm still on the look out for one or two 3rd Gens, but I'm biding my time.

I keep telling myself that I'm not. Some days are easier than others. I'm just grateful for the pistols I have and the few more I'll possess before I die.
I just try not to think about what the ungrateful inheritors will do with my modest bounty. Maybe luck will hold and I'll be able to dispense the goodies here, for people who appreciate quality.

I'm very tempted to put my 6906 slide back on my 5906.

I'm thinking I need to buy another one of each, so I can mix/match, and still keep one of each in original configuration.

For that matter, I'd like to get my hands on a late production 3946 and another late production 5946 and swap slides.
Not sure what those would be called, but it would be sweet.
Correction, the 5946 frame with 3946 slide should be a 5986.
My reasoning is that a DAO 3rd gen .45 with the 4506 frame and 4-1/4" barrel/slide is a 4586.

I too wish we would see customer support of Third Generation models no longer in production. Kinda stinks if one cannot get necessary parts down the road. Good we have places like Midway

I sent in a question to Smith asking just what all of you were asking. They responded with a no. Now the person that responded was from the perfor ance center. I was told that there wasnt enough people there that knew how to work on the 3rd Gens. And was a fan of them, but it just wasnt in the cards. Maybe if enough of us write, call, or email them, maybe they might make a model or 2 for the classics line.

Why not? Springfield did this with their XDE ( see Gary's post # 34).

They have the design already, and lot of people are afraid of striker fired pistols w/o an external safety.

Now that's a thought! Writing or petitioning S&W to consider remaking the Gen pistols as a poly! I wonder just how many signatures/names could be had? Anyone interested in a poll or sampling?
