Model 41 w/Extended Front Sight Adjustment
Can anyone provide information on How Many Model 41 5.5 inch pistols that Smith & Wesson made, which offered the adjustable front sight for increased sight radius? I purchased one with Serial number A139xxx.
I would certainly be grateful for help with this information and I can be reached at [email protected]...

JWSWK Welcome to the forum. If you had your gun lettered by Roy Jinks he would be the one to know that data for sure I would suspect. The letter will help increase its value by a wee bit also.

Roy would be the best person to answer that and while I can not quote you a number I'd bet there were actually very few sold. Kind of a gimmick to me, as anyone who wanted a longer sight radius would have most likely bought a 7" bbl. without the worries of catching and bending a protruding thin extension.

SWAG - probably under 5000 total bbls and probably half sold as bbls only. Both std & and lazy & are seen so more than one run made.

I've looked at this question myself a lot.. I think Tom's guess is close.
interesting the two I have the previous owners had for years.. One did not know it was extendable until I showed him "wow, I wondered why the Allen key was in the box".. the other seller discovered when looking for a value to sell it for. How many are out there and the owners don't know the sight slides out....

Smith & Wesson Model 41 Question???
I have acquired a Model 41 serial #A1390XX, which has the 5.5" barrel length and Extendable front sight.... Can anyone offer some information revealing How Many Adjustable or Extendable Front Sight models were produced over the years.
I did discover a book that indicated the extendable front sight version was introduced in 1965 and was removed from the catalog in 1976. No further information on total production.
Thank you in advance... John

Member Tom Beckwith answered your question above in post#4. He and Aussie Collector are the 2 forum Go-To's for Model 41/46 information. If Tom says under 5000, I would take that as pretty much gospel.

I Agree 100% with what 824tsv is saying about Thom and Aussie Collector. There is virtually NO-ONE on this Forum as knowledgleble as both of them On both these model of guns.

Same here. I bought mine used from a dealer many years ago now. He had no idea - and couldn’t have cared less. In fact, he said it looked like “a stupid idea.”
I was tickled! Still have the gun.
