What does NL distinguish?
I will admit my ignorance here, but what does the NL denote or distinguish? I tried doing a Search...but 141 PAGES popped up!

If this question were in the new revolver forum, I would say "No Lock."

In the G3 pistol world, it varies, I consider it No Label, Non Ladysmith. At the end of the day it means ‘Ladysmith’ is not etched on the slide of that particular model or series.

As I was given to understand, the NL in the non-Ladysmith tapered frame 3913's meant "No Logo" (No Ladysmith logo). It gave someone the tapered dustcover on the frame without the Ladysmith logo.

it doesn't show up in the list of common abbreviations used on GB's website. If referring to a S&W revolver I would assume it means "No Lock".

Jeepers... I hate acronyms! It's sad that people use them and assume others understand. It's laziness, I say, pure laziness! Communication is a two-way street!

Abbreviation -- not typically an acronym. These two words have different meanings.

Good Grief, folks.
If you study the older S&W parts list for Pistol Parts, you'd see that the NL slide was available in 3913 & 3914, in addition to the LS versions.
The LS stood for Lady Smith and the NL stood for No Logo ( no Lady Smith logo).
Those were separate listed slides in the 3913 & 3914 models because the front of the slides were uniquely angled to match the angle on the front of the frames in the LS/NL versions of each model.
The LS slide had the Lady Smith marking, and the NL slides had ... wait for it ... no logo marking the slide.
This way the men who may have lacked confidence in their masculinity to the point that they were too skittish to carry a "Lady Smith" marked gun could buy the same gun without the scary logo.
Just imagine the reaction to the Lady Smith version wheelie.

I read somewhere when I purchased my 3913NL that the "NL" simply meant "No Logo." In other words, the "Ladysmith" logo was omitted for hairy-chested males like me, who still think the gun is way cool and probably the best discreet-carry 9mm ever made by Smith.

I think I’ve got it now. An NL is a LadySmith configured frame, without the “LadySmith” logo, for men who will only eat a hot dog from the middle out, but who would still like to CCW the pistol.

What does NL distinguish?
This is really why I joined this forum for the philosophical discussions.
Start from the middle?
Discard the ends?
Hairy chested males
discreet-carry
confidence in their masculinity
This is great stuff!!!
LOL, Ha! Ha! Ha!!!

At this rate, the thread is going to turn into a "No Limit" gag reel.

I preferred the vanilla 3913 pretty much for the same reasons. I didn't have it to look at. It had everything you need in a defensive weapon and nothing you didn't. Kinda switched over to Walther P99C, though.

I have a SW999C, the S&W version of the P99C 9 AS.
I got lucky and ordered it just as they were getting ready to change over to producing the SW990L9C (their version of the Quick Action/QA model, but sans the field-stripping button in the slide). I much prefer the DA/SA capability of the regular AS design.
I've always liked that little compact 99, and I've shot mine quite a bit (more than 16K rounds). The trigger is every bit as smooth as my 3913 and 3913TSW, albeit just a bit lighter. The grip, with the smallest backstrap, is even shorter and thinner feeling in my hand.
The practical accuracy easily rivals what I can produce with my 3913's, and it's even easier to shoot at distance than either of my G26's (although I'm shortly going to sell my newer G26 to a cop who likes the mold green color, as soon as we can arrange to meet at the FFL).
I admire your choices.

Since we quickly turned the corner to silliness in this thread, I'll just add that "NL" stands for Not Likely.
As in, it's Not Likely that I'll sell my 3914NL.

Thanks. Fastbolt.
In my opinion the DA/SA Walther/S&W AS full size and compact pistols are hidden gems. Multiple strike striker-fired pistols are scarce on the ground. Never had any malfunctions and the reset is so short as to be almost unbelievable. I'm amazed they're not more sought after.
