Default New 3913 Lady Smith arrived

New 3913 LS finally arrived after finding it on a sweet deal on one of the larger online sites....(at what I think was a great deal..)

Bought it for the wife to carry. She seems to love it and we hope to hit the range Saturday. If she doesn’t take to it, probably have to carry it occasionally myself LOL.

This one looks like maybe it had one or two boxes of shells through it and then put up kind of dirty. One of the two mags was unused.

This one joins two 4014’s and several other full sized 3rd gens.

Very nice gun you won.
Bought my 3913 LS on GB.
Have not fired it yet.
Might try selling it and a few other 2nd and 3rd gens at the next local gun show.

The 3913 Lady is a great pistol!

Your Lady reminds me of a 3913LS I was bidding on at GB that got away from me on 8/15. You got it for a great price if it is the same gun.

It looks superb and I hope y'all enjoy it.

I can see where you are going with this , same path as me . It starts off with a M3913LS , then SHE needs a M3914LS . And hah , I think SHE needs a M60LS . I've been down that same road , make that I am still on that road . If you ever find a M65LS , do NOT let it get by you . We keep telling ourselves we're doing it for our wives , we just get to clean them . Hope you enjoy it !

I have to admit I didn't buy mine for the wife...she has a Shield. Mine are for me just 'cause I like 'em.

I need a whooping for letting my NL go down the road a couple of years back. They are very attractive and easy to carry. Congratulations!

Thanks guys!

I’ll probably end up putting that 3913 LS in my rotation or giving it to our daughter who is 21 and carries a SiG PP229.

I normally carry a 4014, 1911 or Hi-Power.

I think the wife prefers a M60.

We’ll sort that out soon!

Hopefully you didn't get one of the ones that jams after being dry fired, accidentally or on purpose. Bought the wife one years ago new, waited the 10 days in California, took it home and before I even got to clean it noticed the firing pin was sticking out the front of the bolt face. Took it back to dealer, off to Smith and 2 weeks later got it back. Took to range, you could tell wife was jerking so I had her dry fire once to check sight picture when she squeezed the trigger. Firing pin flew forward, would not retract, load or fire. Took it back to dealer and got a Sig. Worse firearm we have ever owned. But apparently a lot of you like them. Ours must have been a fluke.

Great looking pistol! I hope ALL of you enjoy it. They are in VERY high demand down here in Texas. The last one I saw at a gun show was listed at $550. I saw a young couple looking at it and the male told the female. "You better get it. That's a really good price."

My 3913 broke the firing pin spring, too. Replaced it with a Wolff, good as new now.

Agreed. Aside from the comments I got from friends in the store when I bought it. All in good fun.

I ran into a few metal guns during my tenure at S&W and as a police armorer, that had really rough firing pin channels. This would sometime cause FP spring binding, breaking and FP sticking forward. It's really an easy fix.

Range report:

Sorry I don’t have any target pictures to post.

I’ve got a bunch of 3rd Gens, but this 3913LS may be one of the best shooting of all of them.

VERY tight groups at like 7 yards and then 25 yards off-hand.

Didn’t have a lot of time but made a quick trip to Sharpshooters (nice Greenville, SC indoor range) and shot a box and a half through the 3913 and maybe a box through one of my 4014’s.

3 brands of ammo through the LS. Absolutely perfect. With concentration was making cloverleafs easily. Faster firing maybe 1-2” groups (with a few flyers that were my fault).

Stripping it down now for the cleaning it should have had before it was put away. Going to take the grips off in a minute.

It's an early pistol - check for the post-recall dimple on the grip.

Jsbethel - thanks for the great info. Actually, mine has a dimple located closer to the back strap. What would that indicate?

That dimple you show in that picture means that you are good to go.

The earliest delrin 3rd Gen grips had a poor plastic mix they made them brittle, so if the pistol were inadvertently dropped the grip could shatter which would remove all mainspring tension, rendering the pistol completely incapable of firing.

The post-recall grip had a little dimple in them to show they are the new and proper plastic mix. The look and exact placement of the dimple varied over time.

One last bit that rarely seems to be said... at least in forum discussions...
I, myself, don't think it's a big deal unless you put that particular 3rd Gen pistol in to a defensive (or perhaps competition...?) role. I say this because if you don't drop the pistol or otherwise smack the hell out of even a recall-era delrin grip, it's not going to let loose.

If most or all of your 3rd Gens are owned for pride, enjoyment, range fun or whatever (as mine are) then the recall grips are just no worry whatsoever.

To that end, I will occasionally find them for sale at gun shows and if the price is low, I grab them. They are perfectly fine to use if you aren't going to put the pistol in to a defensive situation.

I'm sure many would disagree with that... and I'm fine with it.

The earliest post-recall grips were hand punched.

I do the same thing but my take on the grip recall is this - as long as S&W continues to honor the recall, I'm going to take advantage of it - especially given their steady decline of 3rd gen support.

Yep, I'm fine with that also. I suppose the reason I don't do what you do is simply that I don't care to deal with Smith & Wesson if I am not forced to.

These guys aren't the company I grew up knowing and loving.

Thanks guys. Great stuff. I do have several other 3rd Gens and my daily carry is a 4014. Also have a 4014 NIB in the Safe. Both grips are good on those I think as well.

This old girl cleaned up very well. Like I said, it looked like somebody ran one box through her and put her up dirty. Small amount of Strange staining, tarnish just above the mag release on both sides left, but I really didn’t fool with it much yet. Otherwise everything under the grip was spotless.

Barrel had some fouling in it but cleaned up like a brand new one with sharp rifling.

Getting ready to blow out any excess Rem Oil I may have missed and put some Rig +P on the rails.

Question - what do you guys like to use to clean off these lighter colored grips? Most of mine have been dark. The outsides are spotless but wanted to clean off the inside of them before re-assembly.

I tend to believe the 3913 in all versions was the best pistol ever offered by S&W.

Thumbs up

That is a nice one! My wife needs one of those too

FWIW, I had the use of a 3914 for a few months, and later acquired a LNIB 3913. Carried the 3913 as a second weapon before retirement, and as a CCW afterward. Both were as boringly reliable and trouble free as any pistols I ever owned. A characteristic shared by the other S&W 3rd. Gen guns I've owned. When I found my standard 3913, there was a 3913 LS, or NL, can't recall which, right next to it in the case at the same price. Would rather have had the LS or NL, but the LS/NL looked to have been rode hard, so I bought the LNIB standard version.

For lube, I've just used whatever I was using for other firearms at the time.......ymmv

I have the twin sister to your 3913 LS.
Seems no one was interested in the 3913 LS a year ago.
Might have to put it up on the GB block.
