Grail gun - FOUND
For years I've searched for a 39-2 ASP. It's been an exercise in futility. I live in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornistan, which makes the search so much more difficult. It can't be imported into the state, so It would have to already be here, and within reasonable driving distance to do a "Private Party Transfer".
Last week, while scanning the SoCal gun sites, I came across an ad among a group of guns for sale. "S&W 39-2 ASP for sale". The ad was posted 5 minutes earlier. I quickly contacted the seller. The price was within my budget and the deal was made! Better yet, The seller was only 30 miles away!
The gun is probably 90+ percent - but no magazine.
After the mandatory 10 day waiting period, I picked it up today. It's even nicer than I thought.
The phrase "All good things comes to he who waits" comes to mind. It's been a 6 year search.
Now the search for an original ASP magazine begins. Anyone have one, or know where I might find one? I know I'll have to pay dearly. I have cash, and I'm not afraid.
Yup, I know, without photos it never happened. I'm old and technologically challenged. I'm trying.
Update: Thanks so much to "mbliss57" for walking me through the photo posting procedure. Here is my first attempt.

It is always nice to be able to find a Smith that you have wanted for a long time. As you said, it can be an exercise in futility living in this poor excuse for a state. At least the magazine can be purchased from any where in the world. Congratulations.

Congrats on your find. The 39-2 was the first 9mm I bought back in 1967. Still have it and its still has all of its finish. Great single stack 9mm.

Hello OP, congrats on a great grail gun. When I had my shop back in the 70s, I had several new ones pass thru via special order for customers.
They were all nicely finished but I never bought one for inv.
I can not remember what the retail price was. If I see some mags, let you know. Mike

Congratulations! I love mine, but rarely shoot it because the Guttersnipe sight doesn't really work well for my eyes.

I also got my Grail gun just last year so I know how it feels. Many years of enjoyment with your new toy. Took me near 8 years to save up for mine but it was worth it.

Update:
Forum member Model 39 gave me a tip that lead me to an A++ condition ASP magazine. My grail gun is now whole.
Thank you Model 39!

The ever elusive 1046. Heck, when I saw the thread title that was my automatic assumption.

Congratulations on a rare find. Especially in California.
I know Wayne Novak has interest in 39-2 Devels but I am not sure about the ASP. Bam Bam thinks and so he is usually not wrong! It is sure worth asking. If nothing else he may be able to point you in a better direction. Maybe this is too obvious but I would post it on the "Want to Buy" section too.
Again congratulations. Let us know if you can't get pics to post. Myself or someone can help. Just PM. FYI I am 8 hours ahead of California in time right now.
