Mod. 5906-Another gun I don't need, but complete
Picked this up for $380 OTD. Based on the serial number it's probably 1991 production. I'd rate it at about 90%, maybe better. Functions all seem solid. Not quite a steal, but pretty good I suppose.
The previous owner bought it used in 2004, per the receipt in the box, for $423.99 plus tax. He, and the owner before him, were men after my own heart, as it would appear that everything that originally came in the box is in there. Not pictured: the big black plastic "thimble" that I believe fit into the trigger guard when packaged. Also 2 extra mags.
Now I have to find something to sell.
P.s. I cited the serial number in my original post to date it to 1991, but having the box I guess I should have just looked at the 4-digit code. It puts the production date in March of 1991.

Reason: add info re: production date

If you really want to get deep - did the orange chamber flag come with it?
Looking at the picture, the 2 mags on the right are the extras - 2nd gen 14rd with the black follower and metal floorplate. The other mag seems to be early 3rd gen 14rd with the black follower, plastic floorplate and more witness holes. Change those black followers to orange and you'll have 15rd magazines.

Damn, you're right. No chamber flag.
I was going to get around to asking about the extra mags. You are correct, the two extra mags both have metal floorplates, only one of which (floorplate) has "S&W" etched on it, but otherwise are identical. My guess, mainly because of the metal floor plates, was that they were 2nd gen, and you've confirmed.

Sell your weed wacker, your garden hose or your crock pot. I hope you weren't going to sell a gun..

After cleaning the gun tonight and while picking up all my stuff to put away, on a hunch I took the base plate off of the one Gen2 mag that didn't have "S&W" etched on it; sure enough, someone had taken it off for whatever reason and put it back in upside down. It says "S&W" just like the other one.
