My newest project...
I have had this 1066 for awhile now, and while I love the gun the grips always felt a bit small for me. Found these Hogue's on ebay and bought them. They arrived and fit well, but they were REALLY shiny. Like, polyurethane shiny. No bueno. So tonight after dinner I soaked them and pulled the old finish off. Did some research and decided that I would try something a bit different .
So...here's a set of cocobolo Hogue's on my 1066 with nothing more than Renaissance Wax on them. I usually use Tru-oil but apparently cocobolo is a VERY oily wood and Tru-oil doesn't do very well on it. I think they look fantastic and they fit my hands so much better than stock.

They look good!
When I bought my 1006 from a private dealer last year it had some plain Hogue wood grips on it. Before agreeing to buy it I asked if I could pull the slide off & inspect the innards, which he agreed to.
The slide was VERY hard to get off the frame & even harder to get back on the frame. The seller couldn't do any better. FINALLY I got it on & agreed to buy if for a slightly less price figuring I'd be able to fix it.
Turned out to be all because of the wooden grips. The drawbar was hitting the wood grips when you pressed down on the levers to slip on the slide. Whoever installed them obviously never tried to remove the slide afterwards.
Moral of the story: Check for proper clearance between the grips & the mechanics of the pistol.

Those look very nice! I once had a pair just like them that I ordered for a 5906. I really liked the method that Hogue uses to attach them to the pistol, and the fit was absolutely perfect on mine.
My only complaint was that they were significantly larger than the original grips and I never could adjust to them. Kind of strange as I have fairly large hands and normally like larger grips, but these were just a little too much for me.

If the grips are too fat for your hands then I would suggest sanding them down on the back side which will help thin them out. I have had that happen to me as I have Cadet sized hands.

Jusrt remember that if you're working with Cocobolo to wear a mask and wash up when you're done. It's an irritant and some people have serious allergic reactions to it.
