Default S&W 1076

I just picked up this Smith and Wesson Model 1076 for $400 bucks. Came with box and only one mag. Trying to find more information on the gun to see if it came from a police department or the FBI. it’s a real clean gun and fits my hands real well.

You better keep an eye out over your shoulder. Gun theft is a crime you know.

Congrats on a great acquisition.

That is quite a deal. The frame decocker models were subject to a recall - two punch marks under the decock lever (visible when actuated) indicate service under that recall.

Issue guns may/may not have identifying stamps on them. Department name/initials, inventory numbers, unit numbers etc.

If it's really clean and has no wear on the grips/stocks, no finish loss on corners of rear sight it's probably a private owner.

That’s the best deal I’ve heard of on one of the Smith 10mm’s. Nice job!

Why the recall?

And regarding price - in CA I just paid about $1,300.00 and was pretty glad to snag it.

Jeez, I just paid a grand for one, and thought it was a bargain since it came with 5 magazines. $400 for "a real clean gun"? Holy catfish!

Mine's going back for the recall work as well - I've already received a response from S&W to my query and they say they are sending me a shipping label in the next few days.

Hard to say if it is an FBI gun or not with just the one picture. Call S&W and ask them when it shipped. They may tell you if it's an FBI gun if you ask them really nicely.

that is an excellent price for a great pistol. I would hurt myself getting out my wallet to pay such a low price for one. Love my 1076, spare magazines aren't cheap .

It has one tell tale sign to possibly differentiate it from the commercial version that was added as a regular catalog item... the front of the grip frame has the cross cut (diamond) pattern on it instead of plain vertical lines, as seen on my commercial 1076.

Check out these threads where quite the discussion on the FBI 1076 took place for some great info:

FBI 1076

FBI 1076 added info/multiple pictures.

Excellent price you paid... down right highway robbery.

A letter of authenticity would be the only way to confirm its shipping destination, unless the box is stamped "FBI Academy" or something similar :

Nice find!

Lots of interesting information on these guns. Being in law enforcement myself I read up on the Miami Shootout and the reasoning for going over to 10mm. My box does not have a law enforcement sticker. I wouldn’t mind carrying this as a backup.
