3rd Gen, All-SS, Frame Decock?
Whats a good price on one? Say its just the pistol with a mag. No box, extra mags, etc.
I got a hard-on for an all-stainless, frame decocking 3rd gen but I dont want to over pay for it either. I would normally just check the regular places for price analysis but there really arent enough frame decocking versions out there for me to get a good bead on price. Was hoping some of you S&W geniuses/aficionados out there could lend me your experience.

It makes a HUGE difference what 3rd gen you're talking about . Model and pictures are needed.

The only frame mounted decocker I can recall was on the 1076 made specifically for the FBI. A few police agencies jumped on the bandwagon too-Virginia State Police comes to mind. There were some produced for commercial sale, but I'm not sure of numbers. Overall, it was not a raging success, and I'm being kind here. We were issued the 1006, which, while quite stout, was also not a raging success.
Since it's chambered in 10 mm, magazines are an issue.
The lack of success for the 10 mm was largely because of it's size. When the .40 S&W/4006 came along, it was smaller, more suited for smaller hands, held more ammunition and did about 90% of what the 10 mm would do.

One of the more common examples would be the 1076. Figure $750 and up, much more with FBI province.

A little more info would be helpful.
What caliber - 9mm, .40S&W, .45ACP, or 10mm?
What frame size - standard, mid-size, or compact?
IIRC you have 8 SS models and a couple with black alloy frame - 5926, 6926 (alloy), 4026, 4526, 4536, 4576, 1026, 1076 in SS; and 5924 in a black alloy; plus, the extremely rare black alloy 6924 (5 made).
A recent sale on GB for a 6926 with a good bore and poor finish netted the seller $339.95 (start bid) with only one bidder. It had been previously offered for $469.95 with no bidders.

I traded into a very nice 4026 years back and really liked it and it was my winter carry gun for a few years. Then I bought a like new CHP 4006 that I liked better even though the 4026 had a better trigger. Which might have been due to the much higher round count than the 4006. I sold the 4026 to a local county deputy for $325. It took him a while to scrounge up the money but he needed the gun more than I needed the money.

I couldnt resist. Jumped on gunbroker, saw one and threw in a bid in and won.
I know, I know. Wasted topic. Well, for future reference I scored it for $441 + $30 shipping. It looks to be in superb condition. Its a S&W 5926, TFAxxxx serial. 9mm, frame decocker, all-SS, double stack, full size, low-mount novaks, forged hammer and trigger, square trigger-guard and curved backstrap grip.
Ill post the gun porn when I get my hands on it.

I've never even seen one, but had a college buddy with one of the earliest SIGs, a (225/P6?) marketed as a Browning BDA, and I really liked the frame decock. Obviously difficult for the sinistral. I suppose the models were part of S&W's efforts to cover all possible bases for law enforcement agencies, no matter what their specifications were for bids.

Nioce!
Thanks for the pics.
Do you find it easier or harder to rack the slide on the frame decocker models? I ask because some people like to use the paddles on the slide decocker to press against when racking. I feel like they get in the way but Ive never handled a frame decocker so I dont really know.

Well, I'm an old 1911 guy, so I tend to use the slide serrations rather than the ambi safeties to work the slide. Frankly, I find the safeties actually just get in the way of a good slide racking. So, for me, I don't find it harder or easier. By the way, the numbers made of the 4576 and 4526 are pretty small, so they don't come up too often.
Have fun!

Well, its in.
Perfect condition. Cant believe how pristine this thing is. Had to be a safe queen. Extremely pleasant surprise, it came with the original box and wax-paper wrap. That wasnt even mentioned in the listing and I even had asked the seller that question in a series of other questions.
Couple questions -
1. From what I can tell, they made the 5926, at least offered in catalogs, from between 1990-1993. I had read that they were available upon special request(possibly from LE only) up until 2000/2001? Mine is a square trigger guard and most of the ones I see are round, so Im assuming mine is a very early one. With a TFA prefix does anyone know what year that would be?
2. I have the original box with the label. There are a bunch of strings of numbers on the label(s). Does anyone know if any of these numbers decode to a manufacture date?

Thanks for that!

Yeah, Ive read the warnings online.
Know where I can get 'instructions'?

Here is a guide with photos that should help (reassembly guide, for disassembly, work in reverse).
I have used it to disassemble and reassemble two of my frame S&W 3rd Gen decockers. The key is to study the guide well before starting, set aside enough time so you can go slow, and be patient. It really helps if you are already familiar with disassembling and reassembling S&W 3rd Gen TDA pistols. Good luck.
Here you go: SW1076

The "Spec Ord" number on the box end label is a juilian date usually considered to be the pistol's inception.

That number is 0205. I assume thats July 24th, 1990. Is that right?

Earlier today someone on the Broker of Guns was selling 3 different models of the **26 frame mounted decocker’s. All 3 were listed closed together and bidding was low when I checked this morning.
