5906 Blued VS Stainless Desireability--Picture Added
When researching through the forum I seem to mainly come across members who own Stainless versions of the 5906.
I have access to a 5906 blued (blacked?)with only 300 rounds down range. Appears in 90 to 95% condition and comes with 2 magazines and original box.
While I'm a Stainless kind of guy, I'd like to have 1 or 2 non shinny guns in my rotation.
Were they're just more stainless guns made than blued?
What's the value (if any)difference between the 2. Would a blued be worth more due to production models lower than the stainless model? Or be worth less since demand is lower?
Also if you could throw me some reasonable expectation of whats they're currently worth? He's asking $550
Turns out it's a 5904. Worth getting?

The blued steel frame version of the 5906 was the 5905 of which few were made. There were military (and possibly some special order law enforcement) versions of the 5906 with a melonite finish. You could also be looking at a 5906 with something like a Birdsong aftermarket finish.

It would be interesting to know what information is on the box end label.

If it is actually a 5905, it is rare. The 5905 would have been blued carbon steel slide and receiver.

If you just want a 59XX series blued gun for your carry or daily rotation, just get a very reasonably priced 915. This way you will never have to worry about diminishing its' value or extra wear.

Is the frame steel or alloy?
Some of the 59xx family include........ 5903 Shiny alloy frame, 5904 blue alloy, 5905 blue steel , 5906 all stainless. ........ and a personal favorite of mine ....... the red haired stepchild the 915!!!!
The alloy frame guns are a lot easier to carry IMO but the 5906 is a tank.
Also some have Novak fixed sights and some adjustable......

I'm waiting on the owner to send me some more pictures and information on it. Strange indeed.

As to value...
If the pistol is stamped "5906" and even better if you have the original box and it also says 5906, then ANY aftermarket finish basically adds no value above and beyond some level of desirability to whomever might be interested in it. I'm not saying that it is worthless, but typically in our market, it has no extra value above and beyond a used 5906, which is a terrific pistol but a model produced in extremely high volume.
If it is a true 5905 then we'd need to know more about condition and originality and what's included, but it is safe to say that it is going to be 150-200% the "value" of a similarly outfitted 5906.
The 5905 is scarce, and in all likelihood, the pistol in question is probably not a 5905... but it will be fun and interesting if indeed it turns out to be a 5905.

It wouldn't matter which one it was in this area. It would be well worth the asking price around here.

I just got a response from the seller. It's a 5904. Here's a picture of it. What's it worth?

5904 is an alloy frame, good solid pistol and they made MANY. If it doesn't have original box with end label, it probably trades in the $375-$450 range if condition is high.

I Say Still A Good Deal
Even at that price, I say it is a decent deal. I wouldn't squabble over a 40-60 difference in price considering of you're in California and the gun is in California.
Condition looks good.
I would pay $500 and in a hurry.

Looks like a solid 5904 and would fetch $400-$450 around here, but in California prices on many firearms are higher. Considering where you live, I'd offer $500 and see what he says.

Value? In my market.......$250 (maybe) on trade at a LGS...... listed at $300-400 and a slow mover in most LGSs. While we like them most LGS Buyers would opt for a Glock or M&P
Too someone who hangs out here......a bit more.......
That said; I got a 6904 in anib condition with 2 mags in early 2017 for $260 at a LGS
Calf????? add $$$ based on your "import" restrictions.
