Default 945 Performance Center

Hi Everyone,

I came across the 4 inch model of the 945 today a my LGS for what seems like a good deal. I absolutely fell in love with it and it may move into my carry rotation. Before I pull the trigger I have a couple questions.

1. I'm left handed so an ambi-safty is a must, does the 945 series use typical 1911 safeties or are they proprietary?

2. I'm not a fan of the three dot night sights, do they take 1911 sights or do I have to go searching for 945 sights?

Thanks for any help

Default M945

They made several models, & I've never even seen one in person.

Don't know which model you saw but if "it's a good deal" buy it now & worry about the sights & ambi later.

Some info below that may help.

I had a 4" 945 and it was not ambi. If memory serves, the beavertail and safety levers were 1911 parts while the sights were from the 4506 (as are the mags).

But I would call S&W before I bought anything for it.

Superbe pistol - super accurate, reliable and solid. A product improved 1911. I got second in a pin match with mine.

I have a 945 no dash and it looks like it may have the same thumb safeties as a 1911 but I would call S&W to be sure.

Magazines are somewhat/nearly 4506 mags -- the magazine body, floor plate, base plate, spring and follower are all same same same, however the cutout for the magazine catch is located higher on the 945 magazines than on the 4506 magazines.

Early 945 magazines had dual cuts, later 945 magazines had only the 945 single higher cutout, all were stamped "Model 945 ONLY", although the early dual-cut magazines will (mostly) work in a 4506, they want to catch on the first cut-out when inserting them.

OP I am not sure.. but I had the 945-1 3.25" (170177)No Billboard (NIB) and stupidly sold it....
Ughh... worse thing is I don't even now what I bought that I thought was worth more. I am sure it was something. I am starting to learn to not sell anything that's remotely collectable.
