4513TSW and satellite tv
So last January my satellite tv provider informed me that my monthly bill was going to double in price. I called them up and said that's not going to happen if you want to retain my business. They insisted, so I cancelled my service and went to an online streaming service that had a deal where if you paid up front for 2 months you would get a Roku included.
Fast forward a few months and I got a letter in the mail from the old satellite tv provider saying cnette01 please sign back up and we'll throw in a prepaid debit card for $300, a 2 year price guarantee, and a reasonable monthly charge. A couple of months later they upped the prepaid debit card to $400, which over 2 years works out to be less than what I was originally paying.
So where does the 4513TSW come in? Well when I received that $400 prepaid debit card I figured there was no better place to spend that money than on another 3rd gen S&W, thanks to the posts of 18DAI, TTSH, and GaryS among others who kept extolling the virtues of the 457, 4516, and other 45xx models. I watched the great gun auction site for a few weeks and eventually ended up as the winning bidder on a 4513TSW. I mailed a money order to the seller yesterday evening and I am looking forward to receiving my new to me 4513TSW sometime in the next 2 weeks. The way I see it, this one is on the satellite tv provider who wasn't smart enough to keep me on at the regular rates I was already paying.
I'll post pics when I receive my new 4513TSW- can't wait for it! No box or owners manual and just 1 magazine, but I've been buying magazines for it over the last few weeks since I was planning to purchase one sometime this year.

My home has 2 address, thanks to the former owner renting out the basement. I get a better deal or I switch to the other address as a new subscriber and get the new subscriber rate. Then the cycle repeats.
Good call on the 4513TSW.

Great pickup and even better "negotiating."
The 4513TSW is one of my favorites....even though I had a 457 I just couldn't resist all that silver stainless. And I should never have bought the 457, not with a Sig 245 in the safe.
I'm afraid one of the three has got to go, probably the 457, to make room for a CS9 that just popped up in my local LGS. So many guns, so little range time, and money, and ammo, and safe space, and.....

I have found that to be true! I own more S&W 3rd gens than any other firearm category and I don’t see any chance of that changing! Now if I can just find a good buy on a PC model - that’s probably next for me.

I don't know exactly how many 3rd Gens I have, but it's more than a half dozen right now. I have one Walther P22, a Bersa 380CC, and a Springfield XDE.
Other than those three, all of my handguns are S&W revolvers or pistols.

Nice! Massachusetts no less! I like it.
I have a lot more guns than that but here I am in Texas so I have a good excuse. Insofar as handguns are concerned, the vast majority are S&Ws and four are 3rd gen pistols. They will always rate number one with me.
I had a 457 but I gave it to a friend a long time ago. So, Redcoat, think of me first - I might want one again.

Finding 3rd Gens in MA can be a challenge. Patient is required. Along with being faster than TTSH to call the FFL when one is spotted.
So far, I think I'm one up on him, but it's a challenge. I stole a rail 3913TSW from him, but he got a nice (it has to be, he bought it) 3953 about 20 minutes before I did. Then again, I did get that pre rail 3953TSW.
At one time or another I had a 3904, 5904, two 3013s, two 457s, and a CS9.
The one I regret selling is the CS9. I know that I will pay (literally) for that mistake is another should pop up. I'll pay because it will cost more AND because it will go to BMCM for some minor mods to make it a pocket carry gun.
With my luck a CS9 and a 457S will show up at the same time.

Yes, you go for the premium TSW models (with great speed and agility! ) while dirt poor old moi goes for the regular (non-TSW) models and the Value Line guns. The great bargain that 3rd Gens represent in today's marketplace is still my main attraction to the breed! In fact, I'll bet I own more Value Line guns than any other member of Team 3rd Gen just because that's what Massachusetts (with its evil Approved Handgun Roster) allows us to import and buy!
But until you lose track of how many dozen 3rd Gens you own, I say you still need more.
However, you need not worry anymore about beating poor old TTSH to the FFLs. I'm back on a pre-IL revolver quest for the foreseeable future. Only problem? I'm finding that top condition pre-IL blued revolvers are much, MUCH harder to find than our beloved 3rd Gens.

Or the Shorty 9 that just popped up at a FFL. Fortunately, i'm not in the market for a double stack.

Doesn't fit a niche for me.
For everyone else, it's a two tone, with one magazine, PC marked. Listed at $649.00, so I think it's not in collector level condition.

4513TSW pre rail... now that’s my cup of tea!I look forward to pics and story time with the new addition. We all know these don’t come around often, and you got a very fair deal on that one also.
I was wondering if the CS45 mags at Midway would work with that gun. You can get 3 for under $100, and supposedly are missing the feature that would actually make them CS45 mags... so maybe they’re actually 4513TSW mags? I’m not sure. Anyways congrats!

I would NOT buy the CS45 mags from Midway. They are mis-stamped on the left side and do not load or feed properly. Try Gunbroker or fleabay.
I also do not use CS45 mags in my 4513TSW. While they would probably function, I only use the proper mags in both guns. My 0.02 Good luck! Regards 18DAI

I received the tracking number today from the seller. Hopefully my LGS will receive the 4513TSW before this weekend. And yes it is a pre-rail version, which will be my second pre-rail 3rd gen. Unfortunately, Mrs cnette01 is suggesting this one be reserved for Christmas, which I think is a terrible idea. Perhaps she will accept a substitute from the existing collection in the safe...

The 4513TSW arrived today! I picked it up on my way home from work and it looks to be in really good condition. It is the pre-rail version that uses 6 round magazines. I have some 4516 7 rounders, but they stick out a bit so I'll be looking for some 6 round magazines for it. I figure I will eventually acquire a 4516 anyway. There's a couple of 6 round 4513 magazines for sale on fleabay, but they are expensive. I'll have to look around some more.
Does anyone know if the 7 round magazines will function in the earlier version of the 4513TSW? They seem to lock in place fine.
Here's some pictures for now, with a range report to follow later.

Congrats! I look forward to your range report.
Yes, the 7-round mags work fine in the early version 4513TSW. I carry a 7-round mag as a reload. Enjoy that fine 45! Regards 18DAI

No luck so far locating reasonably priced 6 round magazines. I took the 4513TSW apart last night to check out the internals and lubricate it. It was already clean and appears to be well maintained. I am hoping to make it to the range this weekend to try it out.

Range Report
I made it to the range yesterday afternoon to try out the 4513TSW. For practice ammo, I used CCI Blazer Brass 230 grain FMJ. I also tested 12 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 230 grain HP, and a couple of rounds each of Winchester PDX1 230 grain HP and Hornady Critical Defense 185 grain HP. A total of 153 rounds of practice ammo was used in the evaluation. I used the 6 round magazine that I received with the 4513TSW and 3 different 7 round magazines that I already had on hand. Recoil was mild for a 45 of this size IMO and there were no malfunctions of any kind. The 4513TSW also shot to POA. All testing was performed at a range of 7 yards. I have enclosed a picture of the first target with the first 6 rounds fired. The first shot was DAO, with all following shots single action. I am very pleased with my new acquisition.

Nice shooting cnette01!
I am invited to test out a friends new Combat course and shoot house November 5th. He runs a shooting school for new shooters primarily, but does offer some advanced courses periodically.
He asked me what I am carrying these days (4513TSW, CS45, CS9). He requested I run his course with the CS9 as small concealeable 9mms are what the majority of his students use. I agreed, but I will be bringing the 4513TSW to shoot the course as well.
It is my favorite carry gun, still. And the one I carry most often - although that little CS9 has been seeing a lot of holster time and shooting as well.
The 4513TSW, early variant, is just about the perfect combination of power, weight, thickness and reliability, for me. Regards 18DAI

I located some reasonably priced 4513 TSW 6 round magazines on fleabay - it was an auction, but I got a 3 pack, NIB, for $64, so not bad.
