Problem with my Model 52
I'm having a weird problem with my Model 52. The hammer will fall if the slide is NOT on the gun, but when the slide is in place, the hammer will not drop. It looks like the ejector is being hold down and not being permitted to rise when the slide is in place. It is like the ejector plunger in the slide is pushing down too hard and not permitting the ejector to rise and release the disconnector. The ejector plunger is well lubricated and moves up and down freely. See pictures below. Any suggestions/solutions?

I'm not an expert on the model 52, but doesn't the magazine have to be in the gun for it to fire?

I'm not sure we can be certain that we are all starting on the same page here.
When a Model 52 has the slide off the frame, the ejector sits high, the trigger is connected and you can drop the hammer with a trigger pull. (CAREFUL! You don't want to ding the frame up by dropping the hammer with no slide)
This is correct because the ejector is spring loaded and will stay high if nothing pushes it down. When the ejector is high, the magazine disconnect is defeated properly as designed.
When you put the slide on the frame, the ejector is properly pushed down and you cannot dry fire the pistol or lower the hammer with any method UNLESS/UNTIL you insert a magazine. There is a button on the underside of the slide with a heavy spring that pushes the ejector down on purpose.
A magazine will push that ejector back up high -- which defeats the magazine disconnect safety, and allows a trigger squeeze to drop the hammer.
If your 52 does all of the above, then it is functioning properly.
Are you still experiencing a problem that isn't covered by the above?

Thanks for the help. It definitely was an OPERATOR MALFUNCTION! The Model 52 is very new to me and I was cleaning it up for its first trip to the range. I didn't realize that the magazine HAD be in the gun for the hammer to fall. When I inserted the magazine into the gun, it functioned flawlessly. My other semi-auto pistols do not have the "magazine must be inserted" feature so I was in that mind-set, not realizing that "no magazine inserted" was the problem.
As they say, "You learn something new everyday."
