I really want an integral railed 9mm 3rd Gen. I am going to order a CHP 4006TSW tomorrow. There is a source local to me with some 5906 slides. Can I put a 5906 slide on a 4006TSW frame and build a integral railed 5906?
IIRC, the slide on a TSW will not fit the regular 3rd Gen.
Also on the 4006, S&W relocated and thickened the dust cover’s slide rail guides to preclude installing the .40's slide onto a 9mm frame, so I imagine the reverse, 5906 to 4006 is also prevented.
Today I recieved my 5903 TSW and heres what i found.
*The 5903 TSW and 4006 TSW slides both go on each others frame.
*The 9 mags fit the 4006 TSW frame and.......the .40 mags fit the 5903 TSW frame.
*The slide locks both fit and so did the guide rods.
*5903 TSW barrel dropped in the 4006 TSW slide but the 4006 TSW barrel didn't quite make it in the 5906 TSW slide at the chamber end.
The 9mm barrel lug is wider than the .40 but if you narrow it then the 9mm slide and 9mm barrel will fit the .40 frame. I have converted two 9mm 3rd gen slides for my 4006 and 411. You can also rechamber a 9mm barrel to 357 Sig and fit it to the 9mm slide and you have a three caliber pistol.
A regular 5906 slide will not work on a 4006TSW frame because the TSW uses larger frame rails. A 5906TSW slide (same slide as a 5903TSW mentioned earlier in the thread) will work on a 4006TSW frame though, since both have the larger rails.
