Thanks all.
SO $440 OTD for a very good rating wouldn't be out of the question?

Just ordered one from Summit this afternoon. Should be here Friday. I'm super excited to get this gun. $385 plus shipping. I don't think that's too bad.

I own a 4043. Kept it when I retired.
It is VERY heavy to carry as now I'm a retired old fart.
It sits ready next to my recliner.
Accuracy and function and reliability is the highest that any handgun can achieve.

About 10% less than pure lead. It was and is a heavy sumasomething.

I recall about 2.5 pounds unloaded.

The sound of 4043 being set down always sounded like setting down a jack hammer or something else amazingly dense. I think a loaded Glock 22 weighed less than an unloaded 4043. I never saw any gun disappear from holsters as fast as the Third Gen Smiths, weight was the main reason I guess.

2lbs, 13.5oz on my scale when loaded with 11 rounds of 180gr. Gold dots.

When I heard about this pistol when it came out it jumped to the top of my 'must have list'. Well it took a decade until they were released but as soon as I head of them being sold I jumped. I love this gun

I tried to edit my post above but some reason not working maybe I'm doing something wrong I'm new here excuse me. If any of you guys have a link to a disassembly reassembly video of the 4006 TSW and suggestions for doing so, what to watch out for , like things that may fly across the room. This is my first Smith & Wesson so I want to get it right.
Any help and suggestions are very much appreciated thank you . Doc

Check you tube for disassembly videos. Same as the 5900 series of pistols. For cleaning nothing will fly off. Remove the rear sight and two springs are captive. For the frame, be careful and don't bend the side plate. I suggest that you shoot and enjoy the pistol and do not get involved in a detail strip.

How about mods for smoothing and or lightening the action ?Are there lighter Hammer Springs ?
I will definitely be checking out the disassembly videos to get an idea how this thing is put together. I love to Tinker.
My czP09 had from the factory A 10.5# DA & 6.5#SA trigger pull . With a little bit of smoothing and polishing and the change of a few Springs, I turned it into
8.6#DA & 2.8#SA smooooooth

Hey buddy I think you might find the ol’ 3rd Gen S&W trigger beats a CZ trigger by miles out of the box. It has a super short reset for fast follow up shots. Most of the later models also have very little creep in SA. I’m more familiar with the single stack versions, but a quick check of Wolff https://www.gunsprings.com/SMITH%20&...1/mID58/dID261 determined that they do have all the springs you need for the 4006 as well.

Watch this excellent series on polishing up the 3rd Gen internals, I’ll link to the first of the series for you.

Enjoy that fine pistol, and let us know how it goes for you

As far as the CZ triggers out of the box you are correct sir, BUT they are getting better.
I found just some simple polishing of metal-to-metal contact points some of the pins and a few other items can make all the difference. As long as you polish and don't remove any metal and never removes machine marks. It should be all good. Don't get me wrong people can go too far with smoothing and polishing, been there done that had to get new parts to bring the timing Back Where it Belongs.
Any video links you guys can share, concerning proper maintenance, and simple mods would be appreciated.

When I get the pistol, going to check the function, if all seems good , give it a little squirt of REM oil put a few rounds through it and see what I think before I do anything.

Factory 3rd gen trigger is quite a bit heavier but smoother than both factory traditional CZ triggers and CZ Omegal triggers. My P07 have full CGW kit and polished internal. Even through the double action is light and short at 7.5 lb, it is not as smooth as a 3rd gen Smith's heavier 10-11 lb DA trigger. Double action travel pull of the Smith is about 2 times longer than my CGW P-07, and a little longer than traditional CZ triggers. Single action trigger of the Smith are very clean with zero creep, but a bit heavier than CZ trigger. Reset is infinitely better than CZ or any semi auto for that matter.

There is not a lot of aftermarket support. Lighter mainspring are out there but there is no extended firing pin to go with it. Single action is always going to be a little heavy and there are no after hammers to make it lighter, but it's so clean that it doesn't bother me.

Some of the trigger pulls I did:

CZ P-07 factory : 4 lb SA 10 lb DA.
CZ P-07 CGW : 3 lb SA 7.5 lb DA. reset
CZ SP-01 factory new : 4.5 lb SA, 10 lb DA.
CZ SP-01 broken in : 3.5 lb DA, 9 lb DA.
CZ SP-01 CGW kit and SAO conversion: 2.5 lb SA.

SW 3913 (older milled hammer/trigger) : 5.5lb SA 10 lb DA
SW CS9 (MIM hammer/trigger) : 4.5 lb SA 11 lb DA

20# even though the trigger pull may be very smooth that's quite heavy. Maybe the 17 lb spring would lighten that double-action pull a little bit don't you think?
Guys !!!
Take me to school if you need to I need to learn.

When we drop the hammer spring weight in our CZ from factory #20 to CGW #18 and #15 (or #13 for federal primers), we match it with a reduced weight firing pin spring and extended firing pin to ensure strong primer strikes.

You can try a #17-#18 wolff spring (long spring for 4006tws), but that will be up to you to test primer strike reliability. The DAO 3rd gens come from the factory with a #17 spring. But I don't know if they did anything differently to ensure good primer strikes.

who knows? I'll probably just shoot it first and see how it feels and go from there.
Been watching some smithing videos from a guy called
blubelly2. Interesting stuff. Maybe just a good internal polishing will lighten things up. Thanks again

Hey guys, on the 4006 TSW CHP. Are the grips fairly sticky?
I have very sweaty clammy hands, my present EDC has a very aggressive grip. Thoughts and suggestions for possible replacement or not please.
Edit. Just so you know my thoughts.
I'm not into having my pistol be a fashion statement. Self defense handling is number one. Granted if there are very nice looking grips that are aggressive that's okay.
Pic of my present grip.http://

Factory grips are slippery. That was a main complain my wife had on her 3913 Ladysmith. I replaced them with hogue rubber grips.

For double stack Smiths, hogue grip would make it pretty thick. Wrap it in talon grip would probably be a better choice.

Hey gang, well I got my 4006 TSW CHP.
The only word that comes to mind is WOW !!
Mark at Summit was great, quick shipping. The condition I thought was terrific, almost no scratches and they were minor.
A few shiny wear marks but nothing significant.
The grip was a mess on the right hand side as stated in many treads. Inside of the pistol shows very little wear from what I can see, not many shiny holster marks on the barrel, in my opinion extremely clean inside.
The double action and single action triggers are terrific, smooth no stacking, SA breaks like glass.
Using the disassembly reassembly videos from blubelly2 , I completely disassembled polished important parts including all metal-to-metal contact points.
as recieve.
DA 11.6#-SA 6.10#
After: DA 10.9#- SA 6.2#.
This S&W fits like a glove in my hand. Instead of changing out the grip, I decided to stipple it , because I need an aggressive grip with my sweaty hands. Turned out pretty good.
All in all I'm extremely pleased with this and plan on making it my EDC.
I want to thank everybody that contributed I really appreciate the information, and welcoming to The Forum. DOC

Glad you like it. The heavy trigger in these Smith's are usually offset by how smooth the triggers are. Staplng the grip is a good call, even through the tradionalists here might yell at you for doing it. Pick up some extra recoil springs for it, parts for these guns are extremely cheap.

Tsw Chp Messed up grips before and after.
Didn't feel like paying for aggressive grip so I stippled it myself. Turned out just fine for me.

A new recoil spring is probably a good idea. It should measure 5 inches. Careful with the grips, they do crack. With the wear on the one side of the grip tells me that gun belong to a commercial / insp. Officer that inspected semi trucks( he crawled under trucks scratching the grips). Remember , guns like oil ( barrel & slide rails) and it will work fine.enjoy CHP gunsmith

I may be sometimes an over Oiler compared to some people and how they put on oil and or Grease, I know what attracts more dirt but I'll clean that out, I love cleaning a gun it's relaxing.
How ironic would that be if this pistol was owned by a CHP commercial DOT inspection officer? I've been a commercial truck driver for 37 years. Lol

Got too shoot the 4006 tsw,
I need thicker grips for my larger hands, index finger wraps around the trigger and I pull it left, a little. Still within a 10" circle at 20'
Plus my support hand thumb tends to hit the front of the slide release.
Recoil is manageable.
Got a 1000 rnds practice ammo coming to get it right.

Hogue, Pachmayr or Uncle Mike's would be your choices for a thicker grip. Hogues are still easy to get - Pachmayrs and Uncle Mike's not so much.

Hogue full size grip for 59xx (fullsize) will work if you are ok with rubber. Its quite thick and comfortable.

I found the holgye rubber grips full-size they look like a two-piece unit, I guess I would have to get some sort of a back strap for it. The other one slips on like the factory grip only it's a straight back doesn't seem like it wouldn't get my finger further away from the trigger, which is what I need. I don't want to put on one of those sleeves

Guys I want to put the thicker grips on I understand that the hogue grips are supposed to be thicker, I have a one-piece grip on my 4006 TSW. Where can I get a thicker angled, or curved backstrap and be able to use the two-piece grips
Need help I'm getting this right.

You don't need a backstrap. The Hogue 2 piece meets in the back.

There is no back strap on this pistol it's a one piece grip.
This 4006 TSW CHP was purchased from Summit all I received was a gun with a one piece grip and 3 magazines.
