Default 1911 Pro 3” .45- what a jewel!

I have a 1911 Pro 3”, made in Houlton. I bought it new in 2013, put a few magazines through it, and put away in the safe.

Recently, my interest in 1911’s has been rekindled, and the Pro went to the range yesterday along with a Kobra Carry LW. 100 rounds of 230 gr FMJ through each. They were both a delight to shoot, and if anything the 3” S&W was shooting tighter groups than the Ed Brown. I was very pleased. Neither one had any functioning issues at all.

When I first used the pistol new, it had a tendency to choke when feeding 185 JHP’s, and I bought a couple of Checkmate magazines which solved that problem.

Definitely into the carry rotation.

I would Love to add the 3” to My 4.25 Smiths. I also have a Kimber Ultra 11. 3” and it also is a tight Group Pistol.

Default SW1911 Question

My SW1911 3” 45 dates from 2012 and was also built in Houlton. It came to me at a deal price via GB. It arrived with a full-length guide rod and single recoil spring, not the dual-spring system currently offered. Was this typical of early models? Would swapping it for a dual-spring make a difference? And if where is the best source for an upgrade? Thanks!

I have been curious about the 3" Pro S&W 45acp for sometime but not easy to find any information or first hand experience about them.
