Default “New” 1006 Mags - Kinda Sorta

Apologies upfront if this has already been posted and I missed that post. Midway now has the elusive 1006 magazine floorplate catch jobbies in stock, along with floorplates, followers and reasonably priced Wolff springs. The floorplate catches have been out of stock for years. Gun Parts Corp continues to list “new” mag bodies for $36 ... and thus the quotes around new in the title. The mag body I received from them last year looks nearly new. The scalpers price-gougers were asking $80+ for mags within the last year or so but maybe that has subsided. Now, if I could just find some Beretta 81 .32 mag parts ...

I'm not associated with GPC in any way - just thought I'd show what their mag bodies looked like last year...

The plastic black S&W floor-plates are only $1.85 at GPC as opposed to $3.49 at Midway

For a while, I purchased these items from both sources and sold the assembled magazines on Ebay. The tubes came from Numrich very dirty and I would occasionally receive an unfinished tube without the indentations preventing the top round from sliding forward.

It's not "scalping" it's supply and demand. The 10xx are seeing a resurgence in popularity, but S&W doesn't make magazines for it any longer.

People who have them are asking what the market will bear. People can buy, not buy, or hope that something like this comes along so they can build their own for less than the market is for complete magazines.

I see the floor plates for $2.00 at Numrich/GPC. Is there a discount I am not seeing?

They have dynamic pricing I suspect.

The AMT Lightning was a Ruger Mark I/II knock-off. Almost identical parts. GPC had new stainless triggers for just a few bucks, including drilled/tapped for pre-travel and over-travel adjustment screws. Word started to circulate on Rimfire Central, many bought one or more for their Ruger Marks, and quickly the price hit over $15. Still a bargain though.

Also, for a long time, you could order all the parts to build a Ruger Mark magazine for about 6-7$ less than a complete magazine. Eventually they wised up and raised the prices.

If you have a C&R 03 FFL, you can register as a dealer and get dealer pricing. The price I see for those is $1.80.

Just be careful of the followers at GPC. The ones I got from them were built upside down.

As I understand it, some of those "new" parts sold by GPC are actually factory rejects. Make sure everything is correct and functions properly.

Additionally I purchased some floor plate catches from them that were too big i.e. for a 45 not 10mm. I noticed they didn’t fit and called to inform them. They sent me replacements and they were the same. I informed them again with a complete explanation of size difference etc. They sent the wrong ones a third time and I gave up.

Parts I ordered:

GPC - magazine bodies (x2) , black flootplate bases (x2)

Midway: mag springs (x2), white followers (x2), baseplate catches (x2)

When everything arrives and I do (or do not) get it all assembled I'll let the 10xx crowd know. :-)

I will update - hopefully with photos - when my Midway order arrives. Hopefully the floorplate catches will be correct. My order sample size, and history, is only one with GPC - but the 10-mil mag body I received from them is in new condition for most intents and purposes.

Edited: Midway shipment arrived today. Perfect fit - and the small mag parts were in labeled and bar-coded S&W bags. Too late for a photo but I'll post one tomorrow-ish. NOT counting shipping - which would have to be paid 95% of the time anyway - I have less than $50 in a near-new mag with a Wolff spring in it ...

My parts are in a race to see who gets to my house first. Currently the innards from Midway (followers, springs, and floor plate catches) look like they will arrive tomorrow, with the mag bodies and floor plate base pads from GPC possibly arriving on Thursday.

All of the parts except the floor plate catch assembly have been in stock for quite awhile. The hardest part to obtain were the assemblies.
For months Midway would get some in and by the time I logged in they were gone.
Somehow Midway caught on to the demand.
Just last month there were over 100 in stock when I was looking on their site. They can even be back ordered, not so months ago.
There were quite a few threads about those floor plate catch assemblies in the past year.

Everything arrived today and everything assembled without a hitch. My mag bodies were not "new" per se, but they cleaned up quickly with just a little CLP Breakfree.

I'm very happy for the heads up on this thread.

The magazine bodies I got from Numrich were a little grody looking so they're spending sometime in the tumbler.

The catch plates are the correct ones.

The plates show up from time to time on Numrich. Gotta sign up for email notifications and pounce when they get 'em!

Awhile back I needed 45xx & 10xx mags & wound up buying 20 each 45xx plates off Ebay at $10 a pop. Two weeks later I get an email from Numrich that they had 'em at $3.36 (IIRC) each.

You can make 10xx plates by shaving a bit off each side.

I'd like to thank everyone for the invaluable information. I recently purchased a 1066 and it's only coming with one magazine. I started compiling my parts list and placed an order with GPC tonight. I know I paid a little more for a couple of items than at Midway but they don't ship to Canada and GPC does. I looked at using a 4013 base plate catch but those are out of stock at GPC too.

It looks like I'll do an order for items that Midway has at great prices and have them shipped to a firm just over the border. I'll post up some photos when I get mine assembled.

Thx for the information, built three. Had to wait on the catch plates as they were out of stock but backordered at MW.

They must be popular due to the prices. The funny thing is I've only ever seen one 10mm in person, and it's the 1066 that I bought. I've never seen someone shooting one at the huge range I'm a member at, nor do I know anybody besides myself that owns one.

I recall reading on here that over 50,000 10mm 3rd gens of all models were made. They certainly are the hardest-to-find-somewhat-common-gun ever it seems. I also have a like new 4566 that I got in a private sale along with 5 magazines. I gave less than half of what I paid for that 1066. With the five .45 mags factored in at market prices, I got the 4566 for $200.

I have 3 spare 1006 magazines on hand now. Has anyone seen a magazine tube fail (crack) through regular use? If not I will just stay with the 3 extra magazines I have. If they do fail I will buy at least one replacement tube.

I'll go on record as saying that I haven't seen a genuine S&W pistol magazine body crack or outwardly fail in my life.

Is it possible? Sure, I think anything might be possible. Is it likely? I think it's lottery-odds kind of unlikely.

In my experience, you should be able to expect decades of normal service from any 1-2-3rd Gen magazine.

You can never have enough mags.

Three of the four 10mm mag bodies I got from Numrich have "MS1" on the front edge of the mag body (& have the AccuGuide logo on them).

All my other 10mm mags have either "ES" or "ES1" on the front edge. Don't know what they signify, manufacturer?

I received the tube from GPC. All is copacetic with it, it appears NOS with storage tarnish. Can't imagine why GPC hasn't made these into complete magazines. S&W must've surplused off a lot of the unassembled tubes for them to still be available all these years later. I understand they aren't a high demand item but still.

So now I have 5 total magazines for my 1006. Probably enough at this point!

Looks like the 10mm magazine bodies are finally out-of-stock at Numrich. I'm sure prices for the 10mm magazines will really go crazy now.
