Question Shorty .40 & Lew Horton?

Howdy,

I recently traded with a fellow forum member a 66 snub for a Shorty .40...

I've been doing some forum searching to no avail.

I'm curious if the Shorty .40 is a Lew Horton production gun? Were any and all "Shortys" Lew Horton guns ?

If the greater good could provide me any and all information they can, I would be greatfull..

I.E. Date of Manufacture
Is this a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd run of pistol
Any information would be great!

Sorry I dont know why the photo is upside down

Thanks
Erik

That the same one you texted me pics of? That one was etched mk3 on the starboard bow so I'd guess 3rd production run circa 1995. Give Lew Horton a call or email, they'll have better info. I've heard tell LH kept better records on these PC guns than S&W did

PS: Curses, you got me thinking about what to do with my M66 and M19-2 snubbies

Cheers
Bill

Yep same gun ... I'm not up to date on anything PC, I guess MK3 would mean 3rd edition haha

Shoot me some pics of that 19-2 I may trade ya

If I call LEW to request information they will just willingly give it to me ? What's a letter request go for?

I don't know if LH does letters but I got the info on my Shorty45 from them via email several years ago and it only cost me a few electrons and some keyboard time

Give 'em a call or shoot an email their way
Lew Horton Distributing Co. Inc.

If you're going to contact Lew Horton, don't tarry. They are closing down by December 31 of this year.

So I talked to earl (very nice gentleman)at Lew Horton... and he had a rather surprising reaction to the serial number, said he knows the gun!?!?!? Went to a distributor but then was bought back by Lew Horton for some reason unfired... 25 dollhair letter request so I'll have to wait and see what that says ...

That is a great example of the Shorty 40. I only have one 40, but its a Shorty 40 and I really like it. Its just part of the 2nd run of them,(Plain Jane @ 1500,) nothing like yours.

Im glad you got in touch with Earl. He is a member here too but his position at Lew Horton is, (soon was ?,) such a great resource for all of us.

He is as interested in the Lew Horton P.C.s as we are. Im not surprised that he remembered that pistol/serial number. He helped me with a weird P.C. 745 that went to them in 1998. He remembered the 15 of them they got but said they were not a Lew Horton run. I emailed him the Jinks letter I got on it and he was appreciative.

Maybe hell be able to take all of his resourced data kinda sorta like Roy kinda sorta did.

Jim

The Shorty guns are great and I'm sure you will love it. I don't shoot mine much but I enjoy having them. (I'm missing the .45!)

Well of course you need to get a Shorty 9 to go with that lonely Shorty 40. Then youll need to get a Shorty 45 so youll have all three.

Trust me I know.
