CHP 4006TSW
Got a chance Tuesday to pick up a CHP 4006TSW w/ 3mags for 349.99. A guy I use to work with now works for this store and may be able to hook me up with a better price and a hand picked Smith. When they got them in he thought about telling me since I have a half dozen 3rd gens but with a 7 month old he knew I was probably out of funds for guns. With a possible deal like this and some extra in savings this may get done.

Go for it, you won’t regret it. I’ve had mine for about a week and love it.

I don't own a 40 but have at least 4k in brass, and just need bullets. I have said if I get a 3rd gen 40 it has to be a CHP 4006TSW with integral rail.

That's a good price with three mags. Most are going for 385.00 and up.

So I had the opportunity to inspect their stock to pick the best one. Out of around 10 found one with the best finish. Price came to $362.73 with 3 mags. Will post pics in a few hrs after cutting grass. Its good to know someone who knows your tastes and works at a gun shop. Normally he said they dont allow people to cherry pick but he knew I would only want the best for my 3rd gen collection.

Range report will probably be a while with a 7 month old now. My range time so far this year can be counted on 2 fingers.

CDNN is selling them with one mag for $399, so it sounds like you got a good deal.

These are easy to find and relatively inexpensive now, but the supply will eventually dry up and prices will rise. A friendly hint to buy now if you want one.

Love the CHP guns, but The coolest and rarest ones to find are the 4006's carried by the California State Park Rangers. They are engraved with a bear on them.

I almost totally agree with the that and the engraved Bear is very cool EXCEPT those are all wearing the winged adjustable rear sight, yuck. Apologies to JohnHL and Dwayne Charron.
A Cali Parks gun with the logo engraved and a Novak fixed rear would be awesome, but as far as I’ve seen... doesn’t exist.

Ladder , I too got mine from Summit a couple of years ago . I also got a 4013TSW off him . You have to feel sorry for those CHP guys and gals . Those are not light guns to have hanging off your belt all day . But if they had to use them , I bet they were glad to have a S&W .

Just picked up my CHP 4006 yesterday from my FFL, shipped from Summit Gunbroker. I am very happy, tossed in a CHP shoulder patch with my pistol so he'd feel like he had a good new home.

I've really been wanting one of these. Ironically and perhaps unsurprisingly they're not considered to be 'safe' handguns for retail by California so all the cheap and easy surplus routes are completely closed off to me and I'm reduced to hoping a CHP officer who still has one wants to sell his either directly to me or to a used gun shop nearby.

I plucked mine, Friday, from a local pawn shop for $275 on their "Black Friday" used guns sale. Very happy with it thus far. Its got me wishing the 5906 version was as popular, and thus more affordable. We're sure there's no way to convert these to a reliable 9mm?
I haven't shot it. Yet. I'll feed it 180gr ammo only, probably Federal HST for a JHP, and either American Eagle or Speer Lawman for an FMJ. I have about 15 mags for it now, but because S&W silver (as in 3rd gen mags) is more valuable than actual silver (the precious metal), I will continue to snap them up when I see them at goodly prices.
It's got some significant holster wear on the, ie its shiny, on the right side, and a bit on the left above "Tactical". As its stainless, bead blasting will get rid of the wear, but I don't want to lose the layering on the slide, any ideas? Also, it is missing the right side paddle but that should be easy enough to rectify.
Time to trade into another to dope it up.

I wouldn’t say we’re sure. You can get a new 5906tsw barrel and drop it into your 4006tsw. It will work with 9mm mags. The jury is probably out on exactly how reliable it is, but the one range trip I had mine out for resulted in 100% reliability. Now would I use it as my home defense gun? Well, the loaded PPQ in my end table next to my bed says no. But could I? Probably...

Just put another order in for 5 mags for 59.99 shipped at that auction site. Will bring my mag total to 13.

You will want a 5906 slide/barrel. Slide has a longer pick up notch for feeding. Plus many other things that will make it not work or ruin the TSW slide

Ordered an Olight PL 2 valkyrie on black friday for $84 and some change. Was going to buy a TLR1 but the deal was too hard to pass up. Fits like a glove and is easy to turn on or off. Strobe requires both sides pushed but this may end up getting called up for nightstand duty.

Has anyone doubled up on these with a 10mm barrel?
Another way to ask.., Do you just need the right barrel to make a 10mm work in this gun?

I think you need to either bore the chamber out or replace the barrel, plus modify the magazine for the conversion. I'd guess that the recoil spring needs to be changed, but that's just a guess.
BMCM has done a couple of these, so he's the expert I'd ask as to what is actually needed.

If our BMCM would explore this, I would sacrifice a 10MM barrel, a 4006TSW barrel, a CHP 4006TSW pistol and several magazines for research and possible production of a CHP 1006TSW. Just let me know, BMCM.

4006 grip frame (CHP or otherwise) is not long enough to accommodate any magazine long enough for the 10mm cartridge.
4006 magazines (CHP or otherwise) are not long enough to accommodate the 10mm cartridge.
4006 barrel chambers (CHP or otherwise) are not long enough to accommodate the 10mm cartridge.
4006 slide travel (CHP or otherwise) is not long enough to accommodate the 10mm cartridge.
Other than the aforementioned nearly insurmountable obstructions to the CHP4006TSW conversion to 10mm, maybe wishing will make it so.
If Bill can modify a 4006 (CHP or otherwise) to 10mm without radical cutting, splicing, and rewelding of the frame, slide, and barrel, I will have him modify my neighbor's cat into a helicopter.

I vaguely remember it being said that since the double stack 40s are based off a 9mm frame they can't be converted to 10mm unlike the 4013s that can. Which is a shame, a doublestack 1006 TSW with the xx26 SIG-style frame decocker and the strengthened CHP frame and integral rail is my dream pistol.

JohnHL, of course you are correct. I know this because I have converted the 4013 to 10MM. I thought the grinning smiley would bust the bubble on the great sacrifice of parts and pistols that I was proposing while looking at a 4006TSW and 4013 barrel at the same time. May BMCM forgive me for using his name in this antic. He does work for me, and I don't want to be BLACKLISTED.

After owning since Oct finally took her for a spin Thursday for a quick 5rd test in my backyard. At 10yds was able to put them all fairly center in a 9in paper plate. Noticed compared to my other 3rd gens having the few oz of weight from the olight allowed me to get a faster follow up shot.

I just picked one up last week for $380 with three mags. It's in about the same condition as all the others posted. No idea why, as I'm not at all in the market for a .40 or another 3rd Gen. I think I fell in lust with the solid rail and the heft maybe. The trigger is pretty heavy and gritty compared to my 4506 and 3913. Maybe it just needs a detailed cleaning.
When I was purchasing it, I thought maybe it'll be collectable but as I'm learning about the many thousands that were released, I'm thinking not so much. Over time, it'll be kinda cool and maybe desirable to anyone collecting police marked pistols maybe. I could be wrong.

I think he meant did you photoshop the picture so the serial number wasn't showing.

Are these really they are cracked up to be ? Havent seen one in person.... had a 4006 and sold it off, have a shorty 40 just not into it that much... may transition into a CHP
Edit: are they all steel or some aluminum frame and some steel ?

Haven't shot mine yet, so can't comment on their reliability. I have no reason to doubt they won't run like beets through a toddler though.
As for their build, they are legit ALL steel. Heaviest pistol I own I think, maybe more than the HK MK23 even. I found a link somewhere that detailed how they were spec'd out for the custom CHP build, to include making them decock only, getting rid of a superfluous trigger spring and more. They seem pretty legit as far as 3rd gens go.

S&W 3rd Gen model numbers tells you exactly what it is.
A 4006 is steel frame double stack 40 s&w. An alloy frame would be 401*.

The CHP's are TSW's. After cleaning my 4506-1 and racking both slides the CHP is slicker and smoother. The CHP has a full length slide rail.

An alloy frame version of the 4006 would be a 4003. Wish I hadn’t sold mine.

FYI, there were 7000 issued to officers, roughly 3/4 were bought by officers
