Default Value of 4513TSW

Haven’t seen any of these for sale lately. Came across one today in 95% condition, matching case, three magazines. Asking $700....fair price?

Fairly priced I say. Some may think it’s a little on high end.

Hey Jeff, depends on which version it is. Original one with cutout in front of grip at the base, and 6 + 1 mag capacity, or the later one with full-length grip and 7 + 1 capacity (and the rail)?

If the former, then I think it's just a smidge overpriced but not out of the ballpark. The latter, I say $100 high. Still a nice gun, if one can stand the looks of it.

Thought sure you had one of these already, but maybe my memory's faulty -- or maybe you had one and sold it, and now you're having 4513TSW regret!

Hi Chip. Yes you are correct in that I previously DID have a 4513 TSW...now my son has it and I’m sure I’ll never get it back haha! Been thinking about looking for a replacement but they seem to be somewhat few and far between. This one was the “no rail” version which I prefer. Just not sure about that price...might ask for a discount and see what happens.

A couple of reasons you don't see many of the early, rail free 4513TSWs is that those who have them, keep them and they were only in production for a short period of time. 1997 to 1999 IIRC.

The $700 price is no steal, but you aren't getting robbed either. And check out what the asking prices on similar sized, TDA, hammer fired, metal framed compact carry 45s are............oh, wait.

The asking price on striker fired plastic 45s is not much less. And the only somewhat comparable, metal framed hammer fired 45 compact, the Colt Defender, costs almost $1K.

I am biased though, as I carried a 4513TSW on the job for over a decade and still carry one in retirement. I tried them all. HK USP 45 Compact, Colt Defender, various short Kimber 45s, XDs 45 et al. Only the 4513TSW gave me what I was looking for in a reliable, accurate carry 45.

There won't be any more or any as nice and they won't get less expensive as time passes. I have a LNIB example tucked in the safe, just in case. So, decide if it is worth it, to you. What did Granny use to say? Buy once, cry once. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

That one for $700 including three mags and the box is sounding more and more reasonable, the more I think about it. Then again, 18DAI has probably been responsible for more sales of the pre-rail 4513TSW than anyone I know. I bought my first one because of him, and when I foolishly sold it and soon had seller's remorse, I picked up another one that I held on to until circumstances made me have to divest myself of several pistols I wouldn't have otherwise let go of. (It went to a good home in North Carolina, though. ) I still look longingly at every one I see for sale, but my 457S is filling the bill for now.

I'm sure Jeff will make a good decision. He's a big Smith guy and knows his way around these.

Well, here is mine as bought NIB and now with the forged flash chromed hammer and trigger and decock only mods. With a retail price of $924 when being produced, $700 looks very good. $1,000 would not get mine.

I bought one new, has not been fired very much. I keep it by the bed. I also bought a CS 45 new, and that has been my carry pistol for over 20 years.

I bought a 4513TSW , first run , here a couple of months ago . The member sold me a 457S and mentioned he had one of these . He came up with a price , less than $700 , and I jumped . It's LNIB with 3 mags . Like 18DAI said , you just don't see these , so if you like it , buy it . It doesn't matter what others think , if you're happy , that's what counts .

I sold a nice one several months ago for around $500 with 2 mags. $700 is too steep a price in my opinion.

Thanks one and all for the replies. I offered $600 over the wkend, he laughed and countered at $675, said he couldn't and wouldn't go any lower. I walked. Since then, it has sold. Someone wanted it more than me. There will be others. Just ask my wife, haha! Thanks again.

3rd Gen pricing is unprdictable in the past 6 months to may a year Some seem to sell for way more than I thnk they should based on past values and others you can't seem to give away. I am talking about some pretty common varieties too. The 3913/14 series is selling for up to $100 less per unit than it was 2 years ago based on observation. I remember paying $600 for a 3913NL about 5 years ago and sold it for maybe $650 a couple of years later. Now it's hard to get $500 for one. 4506s are about the same as they have been the past 6-8 years. I paid $600 for one LNIB about 7 years ago and the go for close to that now.
On the other hand 4566 melonite have sky rocketed to $1K or more for a nice unit from about $700-$750 just 3 years ago. 10xxs seem pretty flat price wise. The 45x or 45xx pistols have also gone down in price at least around me. The one I sold for $500 I had had for 4 or 5 years and sold it for what I paid for it after trying to get a little more with no luck. So it seems, like I said already, that prices seem unpredictable. JMHO of course. Maybe someone has been keeping score and has better data than my gut feel and personal experience. One thing I am not counting is the big auction. I don't sell pistols on that board unless they are worth more than $1K do to commissions, shipping and FFL fees. I am talking about FTF or sales from this forum.

I'm probably responsible for some of that. Whatever I buy, I find for less later on. Whatever I miss or decide to pass on, I never find again or find for quite a bit more the next time around. After buying a couple Model 6946 pistols over the past year for serious premium $$$, I recently found one locally for a lot less. Of course, GaryS had managed to find one even cheaper than that a month or so back, but it all basically fits into my pattern.

In regard 4500-series guns, I've been wanting to "upgrade" from my 4506 (No Dash) to a 4506-1 for a long time now. For some reason, the 4506-1 pistols have all but disappeared from my area ever since I missed out by a day on the one that sold for $500+Tax... with 17 magazines! Now, I can't seem to put my hands on one at any price. Go figure.

Thanks to you I didn't buy a certain overpriced 457s that was offered just before Mike made his 4513 available

I found two (2) S&W model 4513TSW (Team S&W) revolvers posted on Gun Broker today 10/21/19 by Seller sarah15.

On 09/08/19, I purchased mine on Gun Broker for $861.

I'm thrilled to have it!

On 10/19/19, I got lucky & purchased a Lew Horton (Product Code 170088) exclusive S&W model "Shorty" .45 ACP MK2 (1 of 179) for $714.

Kind regards,
David McNulty
