4013, 4013 TSW & Shorty .40 dimensions and differences
I am a long time lurker but this is my first post. Lots of great info on here and I really appreciate you guys who take the trouble to write such informative posts.
I still love my .40's. Actually, I feel about calibers kind of the same way Bill Clinton feels about girls:
If the .40 is being dispensed out of a metal DA/SA, even better. I don't have a CCW, but live in hope that someday Kaliforniastan will be admitted to the Union and the Second Amendment will apply here. So I am interested firepower relative to the package size.
I am interested in the 4013, 4013 TSW & Shorty .40. I have a Sig P239, which I love. It's pretty close too the S&W's listed above, so I'll probably like them as well. (I also have a S&W M&P .40 Compact which isn't metal or DA, but packs 10 rounds of .40 in a very handy, and shootable, package.)
I have a few specific questions I hope someone can help with.
Does anyone have the dimensions on each of the 4013, 4013 TSW & Shorty .40? I understand the 4013 is single stack, but may not be that much thinner than the double stack 4013 TSW. I would be interested in how much thinner. The 4013 TSW only has one more round, so maybe there is not a lot of difference in the two? What about weight difference?
Everyone seems to rave about the Shorty .40. They are even harder to find than the 4013's, plus you can expect to pay more, maybe a lot more. No doubt they are worth more for range use. However, I am generally in favor of loose tolerances for carry guns (even though I don't carry). So I would be interested in whether the tighter tolerances on the Shorty .40's impact reliability at all. Do they jam if you don't keep them pristine?
Interested in comparisons from people who own both a p239 and one of the models listed. Which do you prefer and why?

4013 -vs- 4013 TSW -vs Shorty 40
The 4013 is on the large (45xx, 10xx) frame while the 4013TSW is on the medium frame & there's a noticeable, but not overwhelming, difference in size between the two.
The 4013 has the most robust construction, not to imply the other two are weak.
The empty weight of all three are basically the same surprisingly, 27oz & 28oz on my scale.
I find little grip feel difference between them. Your hand may feel it differently.
Dimensionally the 4013TSW & the Shorty 40 are the same, but not in fit & craftmanship.
The hand-fitted tightness of the P.C. Shorty 40 is plus, not a minus & is the top choice for a compact 40, IMO.
In good/clean condition they all are very reliable with feeding/extraction issues far & few between, no matter which.
The 4013TSW can be found as the early pre-rail version or the later railed version.
The 4013s (non-TSW) make great candidates for conversion to 10mm.
Sorry, I have no experience with a P239 for comparison.
I have multiple versions of compact 3rd Gen .40s, which I like, but no idea what Slicky Willy likes.

It's a shame you're in Comiforniastan,
You could get yourself a 4006 TSW CHP.
Formerly owned by and trade it in by California Highway Patrol. It's a tank.
I hope one day you can move out of the land of fruits and nuts, and into a state that's more 2nd Amendment friendly.
Good luck on your search.
Also here's a link to some pretty good stuff.

The 4006TSW CHP isn’t on the CA handgun roster...

Wow Bluedot, that post was really helpful!!! Thank you so much for putting that together. Really helped me sort out the models.
I didn't even know 1013 was a thing. Now I guess I need to add one of those to the list. This is going to take a while! I think the priority for my Gen 3 list is a CS9, followed by a Shorty 40 or a 4013TSW.
Assuming I can check those off in the next 20 years or so, then I can start thinking about a 1013. That might be a "try before you buy" kind of thing for me. I don't doubt you that the 4013 frame can handle 10mm. However, I have some doubt about whether my old frame can handle 10mm out of a 4013/1013.
How come the more guns I buy, the more I have on my list?

Doc1500, thanks for that link.
"I hope one day you can move out of the land of fruits and nuts, and into a state that's more 2nd Amendment friendly." I may well do that, but what i really hope is that we can make Kaliforniasan more 2nd Amendment friendly. I know, I know, that probably makes me one of the nuts, but a guy can dream, right?

I can't add anything to your quest for knowledge but, from one Kaliforniasan to another, I dream also. I just hope your not in So Cal since I'm also on the lookout for a CS9 and a Shorty Forty!!! (I guess this makes me a dreamer also)

Antilamr, Howdy, neighbor! Actually, I am in NorCal so we are not that close. I am not likely to drive to SoCal (twice) for this. How about we make a deal? Divide the state into two territories. If I find a CS9 or a Shorty 40 in SoCal, I'll tip you off, if you find one in NorCal, you tip me off? Divide and conquer, baby!

Bluedot, you planted the seed of the idea of a compact 10mm in my head with the post about the 1013. I think I will have to give that a try if I can ever locate a 4013 that the Kalifornistan Politburo will let me buy.
In the meantime, I located a Mauser M2 locally at a good price. They are supposed to be good candidates for the 10mm conversion so I bought it this morning. The state mandates 1o day waiting period before I can pick it up, so it will be a while until i shoot it. In the meantime, I am looking for someone who can rechamber a 40 S&W barrel to take 10mm. Any ideas? Apparently the Mauser has a barrel made out some super hard vanadium steel alloy so it made need to be turned on a lathe rather than hand reamed.
Any leads appreciated!

Holy moley! I had no idea the differences were that much! I'm looking at getting the 4013. I have been debating between the TSW with rail and one without.

Then there's the TSW with rail that DIDN'T have a rail.

The 4013TSW pre-rail was only made for (2) years while the railed version was made for (6) years, so the pre-rail is a little more unique.

true, but private party transfers are exempt. I got a 4006 on a PPT. In the past, I even got a 669 S&W 9mm on PPT.

Don't give up. I picked up my Shorty 40 ANIB last year for and a few weeks ago a CS9. In between I also snagged a CS45. Usually happened when I wasn't looking for them.

I had a pre-rail 4013TSW which I ended up letting go, and I also passed up a Shorty 40 when I still had the 4013TSW. Frankly, I regret selling off the 40 but it was barely getting shot and I know it went to someone who appreciates them as much if not more at least.

Not to try and hijack FoundFathers thread, but, if you're in CA and decide to get rid of any of your recent finds, contact me first. Also,if you come across any 3rd gen compacts when not looking for them, contact me or just buy them then contact me
