Which ones ? If you're gonna say 45, NO. I only pick up 45s' at gun shows to send to members in need here, I have no interest in 45.

And I am just one of the very happy members here that appreciate what you do and offer.
Thanks for all the .45 mags and bases you’ve gotten to me.

Nice! Compared to you I'm still a beginner at 'collecting'.
And before you ask, those are the proper mags for the revolvers.

45 followers,red/pinkish,yellow/whiteish,black. What to use depends on if the magazine has the vertical indentations. The black(latest) will work in any 45 mag. Red will not work in a mag with the vertical indentations. Yellow was the predecessor of the black and allowed use in mags with the vertical indentations.
Here's an old thread concerning the topic.

I buy S&W mags at the local pawn shops out of their misc. mag boxes....many are only $5.00. Yesterday I bought 3 CZ 18 round mags for my 75B for $10.00 total, because they didn't know what they fit.

40 double stack and 10 caps from post#1,spread out.
Top row;5 9rd 40s',3 9rd 40s' with PC marking,1 11rd PC marked I believe for 4013TSW
2nd row;15 59series 10caps
bottom;1 69series 10cap,2 40 10cap
The 59series 10caps are very inexpensive here as those tables that have them are glad to dump them to me as nobody else wants them
The 69series 10caps are rare,40 10caps are somewhat rare.
I do not have a 40S&W double stack pistol.

I've got a 4053 and 1006.

How about .40cal double stack 3rd Gen— is there any difference between the yellow and blue follower?

In post#14, the pic shows 3 PC marked 9rd mags, of which 2 have yellow followers. The 2 yellows have the metal bottom of spring catch plate, the blue has newer style plastic catch plate. Could be for the shorter 9rd PC mags, follower color was changed to blue to indicate a plastic catch plate inside. Don't know !
Can't speak for the 11rd 4006 mags, did they also have some yellow followers?

Actually, no -- I believe this would be most likely a Shorty40 magazine or a Stocking Dealer SD-40 magazine. And if the collared floor plate setup were removed and replaced with the standard or better yet, the large bumper (which was actually marked "CP BULLETS" on the bottom) then it would be a magazine for a PC .40cal such as the Tactical 40, Comp-40 or 4006 Limited, any which was shipped with a magazine funnel like the PPC-9 and 3566 Limited were.

After all was done, I found 3 magazines. A 40 single stack, a 9mm 59series 20 rd, and a 6906 12 rd. Only one mag missing was a 40 single stack converted to 10mm. 2 mags loaded in pistols. My total is 115 magazines with the most valuable being the 10mm and 356TSW mags.

And the ones that had red followers were CHP (California Highway Patrol) training/range magazines. My pre-rail 4013TSW CHP pistol originally came with two of them.

No, it's not how it appears to be ! The purpose is to attain at least one variety/variation of the 1st thru 3rd gen OEM S&W magazines. I buy many at the gun shows here in Ohio (and elsewhere) and when I get a build-up of extras, I put them up for sale here in the classifieds. Once I put together my inventory list I'll be starting a new 'sale' thread. The only ones I don't offer to sell are the 10mms'.

At Sundays' Berea gun show (Feb 16), the big magazine supplier told me the 59 series mags have become scarce, everybody's seeking them. He used to have a cardboard box of the old OEM S&W 59 14 rounders and aftermarket mags that he sold for $25, box is gone and any 59 series he's able to get now has higher prices. 59 mags for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens he can't get enough of.
Anybody else see an increasing scarcity of 59 mags ?

WPB show last weekend had a box of 20 or so, 5900 and 6900 mags for $20 each blued or stainless. Plus a lot more at various tables for higher prices. No shortage here yet!

Updating my thread because of acquisitions at 2 shows and sales in my last 2 'mags for sale' threads.
9mm single stack, top row 7rds, middle row 8rds for the compact 39 series, bottom row 8rds for the full size 39s and a 9 rd.
Forgot to include the one CS9 mag I have.

Oldman10mm,
The mag I recently bought from you had one of the very desirable (IMHO, at least) early stamped steel followers, but of course it works splendidly in my 639 Franken-Smith. It seems almost all of the full size single stack mags interchange well
Anyway, I’m curious to know whether they continued using the steel followers into the 39-2 or not. I’ve only seen a few of them on 39s and some on 38 AMU or 38 Spl mags from Model 52s. As you have been collecting mags, have you also been collecting info on the “when’s” and the “which models?“. I bet the S&W Collectors’ Association would benefit from a definitive article on the many magazines and their variations found through Generations One through Three. Are you including the Model 52 mags in your collection as well?
Best regards,
Froggie

There have been 'suggestions' over the years that a 'magazine variation' manual is needed.
I have no knowledge/feeling on the 'whens' and the 'which models'. That info can only be accumulated from pictures of 'safe queens' that are still with their original factory issued magazines.
My 'collection' is to have one of every possible variety as a 'reference', but that does not mean that I know date and model of issue.
That steel follower ( X style) is actually the 2nd version, the original version (as I learned recently from another member) was flat steel. And rare.
Model 52 mags will not be included in my 'collection'.
My collection started by acquiring mags for my pistols.
A 1006 from long ago, no I don't sell any of my 10mm mags.
59 series started when I had a 5946, all I have now is a 915 with intentions to get a 5906 and 5946.
39 series for my 3913NL and 3953, eventually want a 3906.
40S&W for my 4053, eventually want a 4006 or some variation.
45s', just to collect the mags for reference, don't want a 45
356TSW, just to collect the mags for reference, I have no desire for a pistol.
69 series, just to collect. I had a 6906 and 6946 but prefer the slimmer grip area of the 3913/3953.
CSs' just to collect the mags.

I too would love a deep-dive-reference on magazines but we all must know going in that S&W was like death and taxes when it comes to always using and shipping exactly whatever they had, so *ANY* reference simply must come with the large font, bold type caveat that there was lots of overlap and “for the most part”, “usually”, “quite often” and “typically occurring.”
They have also become notorious for first in last out with some stuff, so you can quite literally see something show up YEARS later than you might expect if some part or bit was discovered in supply or made available by other circumstances.
It would still make a deep dive reference fun and interesting and valuable also, but if you want a definite rule on anything, we’d have to change gun manufacturers for sure.

Arrrgh I had meant to add that TTSH and I think it was TSV624 had a perfect example of this recently in a conversation that discussed the 4006 magazines and the appearance of yellow and blue followers.
Just when you think you can come to a definitive conclusion, a certain example appears to blows apart your theory.
Sometimes it leads one to wonder if someone did these things on purpose as a side show entertainment!
