Tempted By A 3906
My LGS has a 3906 for under $300. I just don't need another one.

So the 3906 is a single stack 9mm with a full frame size like a 5906 ??

That's a great price. You could come near doubling it if you sold it. I had one for a while, but decided I preferred the 6906 for day to day carry, and eventually sold it. It's a little hard to find one, when you're looking.
I say go for it!

I have been looking for one for some time. Does it have round trigger guard and fixed sights?

I agree that depending on condition, under $300 could be HALF market.
The 3906 is basically a single stack version of a 5906. 9+1 capacity, full steel frame. Very heavy pistol but thin. The “practical” purpose for duty or carry may be arguably low, but the scarcity and fun of a short moment in S&W history isn’t easily ignored.
I have two and I most certainly don’t need another but at “under $300” I would buy it sight unseen.

Tell me where it is and I’ll arrange to remove the temptation.

If you don't take it and it's in northern IL, I'm all over it. If it's in southern IL I might still be.

I paid just a little below that price for mine BUT in came in a box. Not the factory box, it was a cardboard box of parts. Many of the parts were missing but I still jumped on it.
It took a couple of years but it is now a beautiful example and a great shooter.
You should get that 3906 if you can.

I have a 3904, the blued/aluminium version. Mine is marked "Gwinnett County SD" Always though it was odd that they would have such a low capacity firearm when there were so many higher capacity options on the market.

A Model 3906 for $300? What's wrong with it? For that price it either has serious issues or someone has no idea what it is worth.

Great opportunity MP, but I’ve always thought a deal is not a deal if you don't need it. But it’s your decision.

You don't need another one.
So you're the one hoarding all those 3906!
Now I know why I can't find one.

There were some jurisdictions that did not want their police to have higher capacity firearms. San Diego maybe?

I'm going to help out with this picture free thread. The 3906 is the only 3rd gen I own, as I am a revolver fan. This one seemed to good to pass up at $450, but that was a few years ago.

In the 30 years since they were new, I've only seen one 3906 for sale locally and I bought it. They don't even show up on Gunbroker that often.

OP, instead of looking this thread, you should go purchase it before it's gone. Any 3906 for under $300 is a deal even if you don't need it!

FWIW-I just bought some 3906 9-round S&W Factory MAGS from Midway ~$35 for my 3913NL and CS9's. I believe they fit all the Gen 3 single stacks. I think someone recently posted a way to make 'em 10 round with a different spring and follower, but don't quote me on that.
If you need 'em...better git 'em before they git gone!

Have one that I lucked into several years ago. Unk history, but with box and papers. Very clean and appeared to have never been fired. Carried it several years after retirement. A little heavy, but I value weight of mass for recoil reduction. Then I returned to my ARMY MP roots and found a Colt 1911 LW Commander in 9. Thin, light, simple, and familiar. Love it. Good luck with your decision, MP.

You better jump on it if it's still there. The adjustable sights are less scarce in the majority of the 3rd gens, so I'd imagine it would be the same with the 3906.

Do it. I’ve sold off several of my 3rd gens but the 3906 will stay.

I just called the LGS and the gun is SOLD. The guy that bought it comes through every week or so. I see him at all of the gunshows. He will have it for sale again one of these days.

I lucked across this last Thursday and picked it up on Friday of last week.
I was in the same boat, but jumped when I saw it.
3rd gen 4506, adjustable sights and all you see here for $500 bucks!
