Default Help - 4006 won't eject w/magazine removed

I have a new to me 4006 that will not eject if the magazine is out.

It extracts but won't eject the round.

If the magazine is in it extracts and ejects fine.

Do I need a new ejector spring?

There is a sping under the ejector/magazine safety lever. It's possible the spring is missing, or damaged. Remove the slide and check to see if there is spring tension on the extractor lever. The lever should pop up (under spring tension) when the slide is removed.

I know the spring is in as it is pushed all the way up and there is spring tension when the slide is off the frame.

When the slide is on and the magazine is out the ejector does not get pushed all the way up. I can feel friction between the ejector and the slide when I push the ejector up with my finger.

I have cleaned and oiled the ejector and spring.

The ejector could be damaged or bent. Check both sides for a "shiny" spot or evidence of contact. It should not be rubbing in the slide channel when the gun is assembled, or when you push it down into the frame when the slide is off. If it looks bent or damaged let me know. I can send you one. FYI, in the slide channel there is a plastic plunger called the ejector depressor plunger that keeps pressure down on the ejector on the magazine. When the magazine is out, it pushes it farther down out of alignment with the casing and your magazine disconnect is engaged hence no trigger engagement

Thank you

But that would only be when the slide is in battery that the plunger would keep the ejector pressed down and with the magazine out.

When the slide is open and the magazine is out the ejector should be all the way up.

Correct?

So, what exactly happens? You drop the mag and rack the slide to remove the round and instead of flying out to the right, it falls through the mag well? Is that really a problem? The gun will not fire without mag will it?

Does it function correctly when firing?

Almost correct.....When I drop the mag and rack the slide the bullet extracts but does not eject. The bullet stays attached to the slide via the extractor. The ejector is not coming all the way up to engage the back of the bullet.

So effectively I have a bullet attached to the slide that keeps going back into the barrel until I lock the slide open and remove the bullet.

That's a problem with the ejector, sounds like the ejector spring is not keeping it pushed up.

Sounds like either the spring is broke, or there is some sort of dirt or obstruction/friction preventing it from working properly.

The other possible problem issue is with the plastic "ejector depressor plunger" (and spring) in the slide. They often become degraded with use, particularly in guns that are shot a lot, or not regularly cared for. These parts....the plunger and the ejector lever have to work together properly in order for the magazine safety and the ejector to function reliably.

Check (with a magnifier) to make sure that this plunger ( plastic) is not severely worn on the bottom, that it appears smooth on the sides, and that it readily and freely plunges up and back down when you push on it by hand.

Replacement springs and plungers are available at Numrich.

Doesn't that component only function when the slide is closed? If it is open, it isn't touching the ejector is it?
