Default ProMag - Ugh...

I recently purchased a ProMag for my 3914DAO, and it didn't work right out of the box..
When it's fully loaded, it won't feed the first round off the top, instead forcing it a little forward and locking the slide open. And then it's really jammed. I have to forcibly pull the magazine out.
It won't act right until I only have about 4 or 5 rounds in the magazine, then it will feed OK.
I put 8 aluminum dummy rounds in it and put it in the safe for the week. I'm going on another range trip next weekend, and I'll try it then. If it doesn't work, it's going back.
I have one other ProMag (32 round for a Ruger P89) that works just fine. I read lots of bad reviews about ProMag, I think I see why now.

Friends don't let friends use Pro Mags.

I have a pair of Pro Mags for a 3913 that just wouldn't feed cause the follower just dragged on the body. Replaced them with S&W followers. Problem solved!!

During the '94 AWB ProMags were sometimes all that were available. I had a new Sig 228 with one mag, bought 3 of the ProMags. Never failed once in years of use but I let them go when I sold the gun. I have factory or MecGar mags for my current one. Joe

Don't buy Triple K either, they might even be worse than Pro-mag.

ASC and C-products AR magazines are good to go, I don't have any experience with any of their other products.

Pull the plate off the bottom and make sure the spring is sitting on the follower correctly.

Ill tell you this about Pro-Mag...their Customer Service is GREAT.....their product sucks.

Ive told this story before...I ordered a 12 round .40 mag for my P229.......It jammed up EVERY round....the original SIG Factory mag worked flawlessly....I called Pro-Mag....they sent me another.....Told me "keep the one you have"......Second one came....SAME issue...Called them again....they go "Sorry, we will issue you a full refund"....I asked about returning the mags...I was told "no you can throw them away"....

Now if I was running a company and I KNEW in my heart we sold a good product....I would WANT defective product back 1) to make sure its defective and see what needs to be fixed and 2) so I know customers arent scamming us.

To me, the fact they told me keep them/throw them away means that they KNOW they product is garbage.

I've had no problems with Pro Mags in Glock 27, and their 3913 mags in
a CS9.

BTW, American made Thermold's are good to go. Only the Canadian
licensed production were bad.

Everything you hear on the internet, yadda yadda...

This is a bit like the restaurant guarantee of, "If you don't enjoy your meal, your next meal here is on us!"

ProMag is really terrible but for some reason they've done a marvelous job of getting into every big box store. Maybe they have great margins for the stores? It makes sense since the quality is so poor. They don't make a single mag I can recommend...and their double stacks and/or longer mags are amazingly bad.

I avoid ProMag magazines like the plague. Same goes for Triple K.

I heap some blame on Academy Sports and Outdoors. They offer a pile of the bloody things to the unsuspecting. I think they should carry quality stuff or none at all, as people that buy from them tend to be less sophisticated shooters.

During the federal AWB I had a Mini-14. I bought some USA Magazines, some PRO-MAG, and some American made Thermold for it. All were junk-ola. In 2004 when the Ban expired, I hove all that **** into the trash and bought Ruger factory 20s.

A couple of good ideas, I will check if the spring is seated properly, now that you mention it, this one seems a bit hard to compress.
And, I may take a known good follower out of a 3914 magazine and try it in the promag to see if that works..
