4006 to 10mm?
I’ve seen some posts showing some of the smaller single stacks converted to 10 mm. I don’t have any of those, but I do have a 4006. Can it be readily converted to 10mm? Obviously the chamber would need to be lengthened, but what else. What about magazines and OAL of the cartridge? Recoil spring weds changing. Extractor, ejector length? Is this something I could do myself, or does it require a real live gunsmith? What would be reall nice is to have a separate barrel for both 10mm and .40. I look forward to your knowledgeable responses.

Nope, no can do.
If it helps...You may think of those old single stack forties as underbored fortyfives.
And the 4006 would be akin to an overbored 5906
Aside from the problems in chamber pressure going up to 37.5k and some other mechanical issues, the chief obstacle is the cartridge overall length of 10mm Auto exceeds the length of your magazine well and magazines. There's no way to ever get it to feed 10mm.
The only suitable conversion candidates are M4013/14, M4053/4 and CS40. No model based on a 9mm size gun can work so no double stack or TSW forties can be adapted to 10mm.
Cheers
Bill

Bill got it right, the 4006 platform is not capable of handling the length of the 10mm cartridge.
I would disagree about the chamber not being able to handle the 37,500 psi of the 10mm cartridge when it has already been shown that a 4006 sized chamber can handle the 40,000 psi 357 Sig.
Unfortunately, the 4006 chamber can not handle the length of the 10mm cartridge, so it is academic.

Nope, can't be done, cartridges are too long for the magazine.

Well, that’s what I was thinking, but the single stack conversions got me to thinking. I have never owned any of these and didn’t realize they were based on a .45 frame. That makes sense though. I have a whole bunch of 10mm ammo I need something to burn with. A Ruger GP 100 might be the trick. I’m keeping my eye out for a used one at a cheap price. That might take a while to find!

Well, you might be able to ream out the 40 bbl to 10mm, but then you would have load one round at a time. Would take longer to go through that bunch of ammo you got.
Without measuring, the chamber/thicker part of the barrel may be too short to safely extend it the extra 1/8" also.
I am no Glock fan, but probably the cheapest 10mm gun on the market is a used Glock 20. The RIA 10mm may also be a less expensive alternative. However, I wouldn't mind a GP100 myself.

Check out the new 610. It will love your ammo and can also get rid of 40 S&W tht wont feed from reloading.

Don’t overlook the EAA Witness. I’ve got one in 10mm I picked up used a couple of years ago for less than $400 and it’s amazing. All metal, hammer fired, and 14+1 capacity. And it’s a lot better looking than a Glock!

If you get a good EAA Witness, hang on to it. If you get a bad one, their customer service has a long history of not always being particularly good.
The RIA 1911 in 10mm is a good option and they use bull barrels with an integral feed ramp. That complicates the take down and reassembly procedures, but it is a good setup in the 1911 for improved longevity when shooting full power 10mm loads.

Most gun shops around here will not stock EAA pistols, you may occasionally find one in the used gun case.

CDNN has been advertising 10mm GP100 Match Champions at $599 for awhile now. Shows still in stock.
