Default 5904 prices

What are 5904 s going for these days? Spotted one in LGS, no box, one mag. Haven't had it in my hands yet. Looked very clean in the display case.

Recently saw one at LGS with box and papers. Nice one but at $495.00 too much for me,

A nice Model 5904 with no box and only one magazine sounds like a $350-$375 pistol to me.

A model 5904, pistol with one mag, has been repeatedly listed on the big auction site for $299.99 with no bids. Others at higher starting prices are getting looks only.

$300 to $350 of course some regions of the country run higher. Condition is always a factor. I think I paid $350 for this one.

Sounds like the price is in the ballpark. Just need to swing back by and give it a good look.

Went ahead and picked it up. 2 -14 round blued mags, STG, serial TCS7*** for $199 how can you say no to that! Has some edge wear and light scratches, nothing I can’t live with. Pics when I get some time. Any one able to give me a year on this one?

According to Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, "probably" 1988, "maybe" 1989. Standard Catalog lists a TCB & a TCW in 1988, and a TCW in 1989. No TCS listed.

$199?! That's excellent! Even for Southeast Louisiana, where 3rd Gen prices tend to be much lower than elsewhere, that's a great price. You did great. I paid $260 for mine with three original magazines and no box.

Here she is. Needs a good cleaning but otherwise functions as it should.

Very nice for the expenditure - a pistol that early may still have a pre-recall grip so check for the dimple on the bottom. If there isn't one, have S&W replace it.

No dimple, we'll see what S&W has to say tomorrow.

Called Customer Service about the grips possibly being under the recall. The person seemed confused by the serial number, had to repeat it several times. Finally said I needed to email pics of the serial number and the grips where the split is on both sides near the pin.
Pics sent, waiting on a response.

The new and younger people get confused easily. I think that S&W has hired people just to do customer service. There is still a lot of inconsistency though. When I called last year about my 1989 3914 with pre recall grips, they asked for the serial number and my address. They sent the grips right out.

A couple of times the reps mentioned that the information for the 3rd Gens is on an older computer and they have to go to that to find out things like date of production. Apparently S&W doesn't think it's worth the cost and effort to move that data over to the newer computer system.

They probably dont want to deal with our questions. Therefore the lame excuse. I've called 3 times before over a period of a few months till I got the right person who looked up the 909 production numbers.

We seem to be post drifting so I’ll join in.

Just what was mentioned before, it all depends IF the “young” man or “young” women even cares, they might be of help. So call again then repeat if necessary.

But sometimes you can get a person that IS helpful. I called on one kinda special pistol and got very lucky first call. Not only did I get the shipping date I also got an offer from him to buy the questioned pistol. He actually said he wasn’t that informed about S&W 2nd Gen pistols but he wanted it. (It was assembled/shipped way after they quit making them.)

Maybe all is not lost with the modern S&W C.S.. (?)

Jim
