No military markings with 45 angled grips.
Is there any way to know if it was shipped with wood or plastic grips.
Those stocks were likely made by Herrett and I prefer them over the typical OEM for the Model 41 as the original stocks typically have a thumbrest on the left stock panel which is much more geared to a one-hand hold of the pistol.
I don't know the 46 well enough to be sure what kind of stock it wore originally.
I have had several mod-46s and i believe they were all shipped with plastic grips. All the ones I have seen with wood grips have been later additions.
Not gospel, just observation.
Model 46 was Smith's cheaper (more affordable) Answer to the 41. All had plastic stocks and a less polished blue finish. slide and barrel fit was different but the pistol shot just as well as the 41 and all the mechanical parts were common. Bought one in the mid 60's and have put many thousands of rounds thru it in practice and competition.
The model 46 was shipped with molded plastic grips that were similar in shape to the model 41’s wood stocks. Also lacked the cocking indicator and the 7” (not 7 3/8”) did not have the compensator.
