Default Has anyone had their 1911 milled for an RDS

I'm considering having my SW1911TA slide milled for a red dot sight. Has anyone here had theirs done? Any concerns I should have?

Don't know the answer, but interested in following this thread.
I have several CZ's and SIG's milled for RDS and they work great. I'm all-in on Red Dots.
Would like to know an experienced S&W specialist at milling especially 1911's and 3rd Gens.

Why not buy a milled slide and keep your original?

I have a Kimber 1911 with a milled slide / Vortex Red Dot, and it makes for a nice installation / fit.

If you don't want to spend the $$ for milling, or a new slide, Burris makes a mount for their FastFire RD that utilizes the rear sight dovetail to secure it. Have that set up on a RIA 1911, and it works well, and don't look bad.

I was thinking of that as an option as well. Do you have a source by chance?

Heavy Armor Division. These guys have a good reputation on a Para forum that I belong to. I have never dealt with them although I plan on having another slide built with a RDS cut for my Para .38 Super.

I will let you know shortly. I sent my slide and a Holosun off to Fusion Firearms to mill the slide and mount it. Should be back in a couple of weeks

For a dovetail mounted RDS I used these guys on my CZ and Sigs with very good results. They do 1911s. They are friendly customer oriented and will help you over the phone. If it doesn't say S&W on their website just call them.

EGW Gun Parts

This is a good option as a starter at worst. If you really like the RDS you can always have a slide milled later. But I don't plan to mill any of mine.
This option allows you to put the gun back to original config.

Fusion has one milled for Rmr, but the slide is $199, then $125 for the mill work. Good luck on hearing from them I tried to order a $400 slide all day on the 14th, their website wouldn't work right, I emailed them 3 times and never heard from then so gonna buy a Caspian slide. I plan on milling it myself.

I'm sending my slide to Defensive Creations in Alliance, OH. Got some excellent recommendations on them. Getting the plate from Chambers Custom in NE, they'll ship direct to DC for install.
