Do they even have any frames to replace it with. If they can't repair, I bet you get half off an M&P

Ayup. Sent in an old 629 that I bought used for repair and a polish job. Came back, all they charged was for the polish job.

No to CHP, yes to " well we can offer you a credit to buy a xyz". If you were good with that weapon find another one NIB if you can...

I’m more curious to see if a gunsmith like Bruce Gray etc. can weld the steel frame. I was honestly shocked to see a cracked frame in a CHP 4006. I have one and now I’m considering a couple more just to have parts if nothing else.

Do you have a link to the NIB 4006 TSW? The only thing I’ve seen at $900 is a “custom” 4006 TSW whatever that’s supposed to mean.

It means they want to get 900-bucks for it. I love overpriced guns with dubious and unsubstantiated gravitas. Ask them for the details or if there's paperwork and watch the bravado just melt.

We have a local trade site here in GA where folks trade firearms and other outdoor stuff. There is this one seller that always leads with "rare" or "hard to find" on about everything he sells. Seen someone else that list an Ar-15 as "pre-ban". They look like a bunch of salesmen trying to justify their high price. I generally steer clear of those folks.

I have the same attitude. Back when FN-FAL kits came into the country with barrels, cost 150-bucks, and Imbel receivers cost 75-bucks, I could build four fully functioning FAL's for less than the cost of one Springfield semi-auto M14. I have a fairly comprehensive collection of FALs as a result.

Given current conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, I would expect much longer wait times to get responses from and repairs executed by S&W. I doubt they are immune to the things that are affecting most other businesses.

Holly smokes! I purchased one for a retirement gift from being a law enforcement officer last year.

I haven't shot it yet for some reason but plan on just using normal .40 S&W ammo. I have never seen a production gun crack like that...wow!

Glad you're okay and you can find another one. My research shows they only made 9700 of these and I would imagine that is going to dry us pretty soon.

Looks ok to me. Unless you have noticed diminished accuracy, I'd continue to use the original barrel.

Years ago my 669 cracked almost the same spot. Only shot factory 115, Less then 500 rounds and it cracked. Sent back to S&W. They replaced the frame - I then traded it to my local dealer for a Sig P220 American when they first came out.

I was almost to the point it was too heavy honestly. With a mix of that lot of ammo, maybe the pistol beat itself to death. From the 6 other 40xx pistols I have had it always had a what felt like stiff spring. The spring was a extra power wolff spring for those wondering.

Wanna buy a couple of factory P220 9mm magazines for less than they go for elsewhere online?

No honestly bought 2 of these CHP guns since and didn’t care to send it in. Quit my job to go back to flight school full time so I have a week till that starts so I have been working down my list.

Sometimes you just haven't wanted to fool with it. I have a lot of items around like that. One day, I will finally move it to the top of the priority list.

I have a question for you all since this is the first time I have sent a pistol in, if the frame is cracked will they even send it back to me? Won’t it be a liability at that point if they were to send it back?

Coin toss. Depends who is involved in making the call after examining it.

They may tell you it's not repairable and not covered under warranty anymore (they'll be able to figure out it was a resold CHP trade-in).

They may offer you a discount toward a current production gun with the proviso they keep the damaged one.

Or, they may just send it back.

Never say never. Let us know.

They will send a M&P equivalent.

At least worth a call regardless.

You must also consider that the problem is a serious safety issue and could very well be a factory defect. Some manufactures will fix it even if out of warranty depending on the failure for liability reasons. Mossberg replaced a barrel free of charge on my 935 because the vent rib was not straight on the barrel. Bought it used at a pawn shop and was years past the 2 year warranty. It never hurts to ask. I called Georgia Boot once to buy new inserts to my boots, the ones in them had worn out. They shipped me new inserts for free. I was willing to pay for them. The worst they can tell you is no.

Rosewood
Big Blue bought the FBI 1076 guns from the FBI and sols them themselves. A bit of a difference here than the CHP 4006s.

Not the worst outcome but a M&P does not equal a 4006TSW unfortunately to me, I rather just have it for spare parts at that point.

Receive M&P. Sell M&P. Use money to buy 4006TSW. Problem solved.

I'd talk to their CS first.

The disappointment of opening a Fed Ex box expecting your shiny metal gun only to see a black 40 M&P is really not a good feeling.

Could be worse, I got a revolver back as just "unrepairable". Best of luck OP, I've been flirting with buying one of the trade ins, they're really cool.

Called customer service today, they say it’s still in their lab and is slated to be finished in the next coming weeks. Asked the rep I had and he said more than likely in this situation there would be a comparable current production firearm substituted for it.

I sent a 351C back because it was very hard to eject spent cases. Got an email that it was "unrepairable" and they would be sending me a new one. No word on what was unrepairable, just that the gunsmith had noted that.

I pushed the envelope a bit and asked for a no lock version even though the one I sent in had the lock. They sent me a no lock and all I had to do was pay the transfer fee.

So they're taking your 4006TSW and sending you back a 1911 or an M&P40? Can't say I'd be pleased honestly.

It's not like they can go to their vaults and pull a new 4006TSW off a rack to send him.

If he's being offered a new "comparable" model as a straight across replacement, for a Used pistol he bought, that's not exactly a bad deal.

What would please you? Being told that the Used gun you bought is not only a Discontinued model, but that you're not entitled to anything because you're not the Original Owner?

Being offered a discount for a current production gun wouldn't be unfair, and being offered a no-cost replacement for the Secondhand gun is a pretty good deal, all things considered.

I my wildest dreams I would get a call and they would say we found one in the back of the warehouse to send to you brand new I agree tho I did buy it used so they are not even entitled to do anything really. Figures crossed maybe they can repair it (doubt it tho)

Yeah, back before the TSW line (and the rest of the 3rd gens) were Discontinued (also known as being Obsolete ) they'd usually have "extra" overrun guns in their vault. Once those were washed out and sold off to S&W's usual distributors, that dream evaporated in the morning sun.

Kind of like how that suddenly available run (3000 +/- units) of the original 642-1's that appeared. I was told by someone at the factory that it came about when the company decided to clear out some "extra" unserialized 642-1 frames that had been taking up too much space in their parts vault. They pulled them, serialized them (new numbers) and offered them to a couple of their major distributors.

When I first heard about that short run of new guns made on old pre-ILS Centennial frames, I quickly decided I'd like to have a second one. I called back to find out about ordering one, as an armorer, and learned a couple of interesting things.

First of all, they had all been quickly sold to distributors and shipped out. No more remained at the factory. (They gave me a couple distributor names to call to see if I could find one, but the pricing was no longer something the factory had any control over.)

Secondly, not everyone even knew they'd been produced. I, spoke to at least one guy at the company who hadn't even been aware they'd pulled all those older frames to make a run of newer 642-1's. He said it hadn't really been announced or discussed in-house.

A little later I was told they'd done much the same thing with a smaller number of older 442-1 frames, and those had been dispersed to the Distributor pipeline, too.

The eventual rest of the story turned out to be that the quick sale, and resulting requests for more, of the -1 642/442 snubs made the company decide to reintroduce the -1's again in the regular catalog, alongside the -2 models (for the folks who wanted the ILS feature).

Of course, we asked in armorer classes if/when the company would reintroduce at least optional no-lock models in the regular revolver lines. The common reply was that the decision had been made that only internal hammer revolvers would be offered with and without the ILS.

Basically it was said that no revolver with an external hammer that could be thumb-cocked into SA (resulting in a shorter and lighter trigger pull) would be produced without the ILS. Never say Never with S&W corporate thinking ... but I haven't been holding my breath.
