Default These old mags

Went into LGS today and asked if they had any old smith magazines laying around. They had four, one was a 22 Victory (not really old) no interest, one was a factory Model 41, $25 - deal, one was a factory third gen 9mm 17 round, $15 - deal. The last one was 22, likely 10 rounds, with two open sides, black, but had a small open quadrangle frame extending from below the base plate. Probably should have bought, but , no picture was allowed and a quick Google yielded nothing in S&W 22 magazines that looked like that. I will keep looking. Anyone know what that mag might be? Thank you, in advance. After factory maybe? Well, if not careful, I might learn something.

A “factory 3rd Gen” 9mm magazine of 17-round capacity must have been a black Mec-Gar, I’m not aware of any 17-round original S&W factory 3rd Gen magazine.

S&W has actually made only a small variation of .22cal pistol magazines. The 41 magazine also fit the 422/622/2206 pistols. The 22-A magazine was silver in color, as are the Victory magazines I believe. The only ones left are the 8-round 2213/2214 mags, which are just shorter versions of the 41 magazine and the old school Model 61 Escort magazine. Also 8 rounds I think?

I think the 41 Mag will fit my 46.
Would probably have moved on that one.

It is a "shiny" factory 9mm third gen magazine that works in my model 915. I beg your pardon, I must have also looked at too many M&P9 magazines yesterday. Not my last mistake.

Agreed. After looking online again, I am thinking the frame is an after factory add on. Too long for the Model 61. II am going to go back and make an low offer on it if only to figure out what is. Likely a 41 or 22A magazine. It has the S&W stamp on it, but that can be replicated. Thank you!

Regrettably, I have not since been able to find anyone else at this large LGS who is aware of and acknowledges the existence of the bin of old mags in the back room. Should have pounced on all three when I had them.
