Default 952-2

My wife has decided that we need a 952 for our collection. There is a really nice example coming up for sale in few days. Just for fun, any guess what this is going to cost me?

5-inch 952-2?

Top market for this in mint or NIB condition can float around $3,000. This would be from a known and respected Gunbroker dealer.

Lower the condition and the less known reputation of the seller and the price drops accordingly.

The 952-2 is a straight up gorgeous pistol!

I’ve seen versions go for even more, so be careful what your wife is sold on. Still, better than a wife that wants a new horse......

Are you talking about collection, as in isn't that pretty, or are you going to be showing it off at the range and show everyone how well it shoots? Sevens is about right at $3000. I have one new and unfired, if I wanted to sell it thats about what I'd be wanting. A really nice one that you like to shoot, maybe 23 to 25. One that's seen a lot of use might be under 2, may not be as pretty but probably still a very good shooter.

The wife already has 4 horses, so she has that covered. I got the task of building a barn a whole lot of fence. But to be fair she did help, she is very capable. As far as the 952, I like guns that are really nice to shoot. I shoot at home, so they are rarely seen by anyone but me and her. Condition has to be pretty good but not perfect, because I am going to shoot it. I have very few safe queens.

I used to shoot bullseye in prep school and college. Back then I used a 52-1. Out of nostalgia I guess I bought a 52-2 a few years ago for $1K. It had been shot but was in good shape and came with the box and papers, 3 mags and several extra parts including an extra slide. Brings back memories when I shoot it.

It ended only $600-$700 over high market. The market is fluid of course, and every single sale that we can identify is merely a data point of the overall market.

I'm not thrilled with what we saw, it's always a mystery and not a good mystery when 50% of the driving force is a no feedback bidder. I am not saying I know (because I truly do not) but I'll say that if you were an investigator, you'd want to clear out the obvious question first and the obvious question starts with the letters "SH" and end with the letters "ILL." I am a student of this market and this interests me a whole lot.

RARE S&W Model 952-2 5" Performance Center PC 9MM BOXED - Semi Auto Pistols at GunBroker.com : 856501577
$2,199 was the highest bid laid down by anyone else with a history on Gunbroker other than the winner who is a known quantity.

Last two of these I seen sell sold for 2300 and just passed on another online auction for 2500 that was new in box with outer shipping carton that this very seller that sold this one will be putting on gunbroker soon I am sure. 3600 for this one is just insanely/nuts high. As mentioned above last legit bid was 2100 and change. A no rating bidder with an account open for a year and the bidding pattern..... Also nothing rare about the 952-2's. They are plentiful.

What you’re talking about happens everyday, you never know who’s behind the name. Maybe the auction site should have a better personalizing or detection system. But if they did that then there’s less money to be made.

I have no problem paying a premium for a fine firearm but when it’s being driving up to meet a hidden reserve or because of the username that’s bidding then there’s a problem.

I have bid, seen and watched a lot of auctions and learned the hard way in the past. I guess this guy didn’t care.
