A 659 followed me home
Another classic Smith followed me home tonight. This a time a near mint 659. The Bianchi/S&W duty holster came with it.
Can someone date serial # TAT88xx for me?

Good gun! The three-alpha serial range is horrible to try and pin down a date. A few bits I would say... earliest guns had a rounded trigger guard, yours is later as it has the finger rest. Earliest guns also had a single sided decocker, yours is ambi. So these suggest yours was mid-to-later in the run.
Earliest 659’s were maybe 1982, more likely 1983. The 3rd Gens hit in 1988, 1989.
This model is a fantastic candidate for the now out-of-production Uncle Mike’s rubber grip panels. These can usually be found on Ebay for around $20. They are an absolute upgrade from the original and not grippy thin plastic stocks that it came with.

My first S&W was a new 659, now long gone.

TAT is a 1987 date of manufacture - and this is a later version as they went out of production in 1988.
The 659 is an amazing example of overbuilt-design and stainless machining. S&W pulled out all the stops on this trying to bolster the duty gun market in the face of increasing competition. I can't imagine what it would cost to manufacture today.

What a gorgeous example! I love my 659 and snagged it for a silly low price. Love those grips, they love great on her!
