Default Warranty questions

I have sent in several for warranty work, but have always made sure the gun was in factory condition.

Has aftermarket sites or grips ever been an issue (void warranty) when sending in a gun for warranty work?

Thanks,

Rosewood

I once sent back a gun I suspected wouldn’t come back. It seemed to me it couldn’t be repaired. Unfortunately, I was right.

In that case, I removed the aftermarket grips. I don’t believe I’d send a gun back to S&W with any special accessories.

Aftermarket sights won’t void your warranty, but you risk losing them if they end up replacing the gun. I’ve always removed the stocks before sending a gun back for service. They have plenty of stocks on hand if they want to test fire it, so why risk damage or loss. If there’s a chance the gun is irreparable, I’d probably reinstall the factory sights too.

I returned a 625-10 with a cracked frame. I removed the stocks, kept the aluminum PC case and shipped it in a generic reinforced cardboard box. Turns out they didn’t have any replacement frames left and that model was sold out, so they replaced it with another PC gun of my choice. Extra stocks and PC cases do come in handy!

Don't send in after market / custom grips...things can get "lost" .

Grips are an easy swap out. But taking of the sights could be aggravating. Once getting them in place, I hate to remove them. Every time you do, you risk damaging the sights.

I am pretty sure I need the trigger play spring replaced on my 3913. Have already had them replace them on 2 1076s and a 4013. But they were 100% factory when I sent them in.

Thanks,

Rosewood

Can you find the spring and rivet and have them replaced locally?

The slide is NOT needed when replacing a trigger play spring.

Ask S&W if you can send in the frame only when you have the trigger play spring replaced.

With the slide removed you can visually see if the spring is broken.

It isn't broken, but it has a hitch to it. Kind of annoying. When you are staging the trigger in single action mode, then release the trigger, it catches on the return. Doesn't stick, but you can clearly tell there is an issue.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I have not looked, but would rather let S&W do it on their dime. I would do it myself anyway.

Okay. It's lost it's tension. You can try to tighten it up by pushing the top of the spring forward using the eraser tip of a pencil.

It may stay tight after this or slowly loosen back up again. Depends on what happened to it. Worth a try.

Good info. I was comparing my 908 and the 3913 last night and noticed one of them had the joined fingers and the other didn't. Although, I am not 100% sure it is the trigger play spring. Seems like there is something going on with the trigger connector, like an edge that is catching.
