Good question. I've never had a Houlton made gun, but that will be corrected in a few days. Maybe even by the weekend, depending on shipping.

I have a "Maine" 3914DAO. I don't know what info you're looking for specifically, but having examined it carefully when I received it, I can say it is a beautiful firearm. I don't see a bit of difference from my other 3rd Gen semis.

I have a couple of Houlton, Maine 3rd Gens and have not noticed a bit of difference in quality between them and my dozens of Springfield 3rd Gens. Curious to know what lack in quality people were referring to though. Was there some difference in the manufacturing process or were there rumors of poor quality control or something?

s&w vs
the reason i asked this question, is i was told by a gunsmith, that when they move to houlton, maine, a lot of the old tools/machines went there, so quality may not have been very good. be safe....dan

We were told in one of the armorer recerts that the company had bought and shipped a lot of brand new machines to Houlton, in preparation for moving the 3rd gen work there, and were busy training the people there to produce and repair the 3rd gens (in addition to the SW1911's). I don't recall handling a 3rd gen made at the Houlton plant, offhand.
I do remember that Pistol Repair work for the 3rd gen's was moved to Houlton.
