some ? for model 39-2 experts - diffs to 3913
I've posted my 39-2 before and have been practicing/shooting regular since last June. The gun is extremely nice handling for me, quite accurate and I am now very seriously considering the 39-2 becoming my EDC after decades of M36, M60, and current 637-2.
The problem is I like belt carry, forward cant, and quality leather.
So looking around I see 2 good possibilities: Desantis and Galco, but both sites do not have a true 39-2, rather everything seems to be 3913.
What are the real differences? Model 39 all steel, Model 39-2 alloy frame, 3913 ???
Is there are difference in barrel lengths or certain controls that will make either holster sold for a 3913 unusable for a 39-2?
I like thumb break or hammer thong styles and don't really have to have a high retention level or Kydex, etc. It is concealed carry usually worn with clothing styles that present minimal if any printing.
If any of you actually carry, or have carried a Model 39-2 in belt carry, please let me know what leather worked for you.
Sorry if this thread belongs in carry gear then mods please move it, but I think important (for me anyway) is to see if there are real dimensional or controls differences that preclude the current holster makers choices, before I set out to find vintage leather, or have to revert to non leather choices.

When we were issued 39s (mine was a 39-nothing) and then 439 which is the same size/design as the 39 I carried on the belt in a Jackass Pancake. Carried well and fairly easy to conceal.
I doubt anyone who has a steel frame 39 is going to be CCW it. Not if they know what they have and most likely they do.

I have seen two steel 39s were carried and heavily carried. Yes, holster worn and cleaned.Back in the mid sixties they were no big deal, just another carry 9mm. Didnt buy either one. Mike

When I was a Deputy Sheriff I carried mine in a Bianchi pancake or pistol pocket#3 when off-duty. I carry it sometimes and use a pancake from Galco, here are the numbers from the holster J139WCD and FL244B. It works fine and holds the 39-2 tight as along as you have a good belt. I hope this helps.

You would do better searching for current offerings for the 5906 - the 3913 has a shorter barrel than the 39-2. A good holster for the 39-2 is the Strong H300-434.

I have always liked the Avenger style holster... mine are Bianchi from years ago but I don't think they still make them.
Here are google sources:
Avenger Belt Holster image does not show the rear belt slot or FBI cant.

I have Galco Combat Master CM244B belt holsters for most of my 3rd gens. I have an older one marked CM244 that is perfect for my M39 and M39-2.
Even though they are the same model holster, each one only gets used for a specific gun model. I mark them on the back, and they break in differently for each model.
I don't have a 3913, but a 908S doesn't work well in any of the Galcos.
I have a Lefty Lewis (Bell Charter Oak) Half Breed Auto Slide that works nice for the shorter barreled models, like the 908 and a CS40

The Models 39 and 39-2 should fit just fine in any holster designed for the 39/x39/39xx and 59/x59/59xx. It will also fit in holsters designed for the 3913/3914 and 6904/6906 as long as the bottom of the holster is open as the 39 is 1/2 longer at the muzzle end than the compact pistols. Given that the 39/39-2/x39 and now 39xx pistols have been out of production for so long, but the 59xx and 40xx pistols remained in production until relatively recently, your best bet may actually be to use a holster for the 59xx/40xx pistols.
Holsters for the bobbed hammer pistols with retention straps that fit over the rear of the slide may not fit over a pistol with the spur hammer.
It has also been my experience that these pistols with the round trigger guard will fit holsters designed for the hooked (square) trigger guard, but pistols with the square guard must have a holster designed for that guard.
